That video interview is over 4 hours long! The interviewer is a former Navy Seal colleague. So far I only watched the first 30 minutes, but they really open up and get into heavy stuff.
I understand that there's a lot of people who like this kind of headphone - as someone who is trying to manage ongoing hearing damage, I can't see myself signing up for all day every day wit sealed headphones tbh, at this price or less.
I don't like earbuds and much prefer over-the-year headphones if necessary, but I don't need them often. Neither my office-office nor my bedroom-office is a shared space, and if I'm consuming some material in public, it's usually reading something, not listening to something.
BUT! I am getting a new phone! After 6 years with the iPhone 6, I'm getting a 12 mini!!!
I am on quite a lot of calls now, and I'm pretending that my temporary work space is just that and there's no need to expend money on speakers for it. When I go back to a cube farm eventually, I will enjoy noise canceling headphones even if I'm not listening to music.
Do you guys plan to get a screen protector? I ordered a case (with ice cream on it!), and I've always used a case, but I've never used a screen protector.
I always get a Matte screen protector. The ArmourSuit Military shield matte ones are the best. They're kinda expensive for the first one but there is a lifetime warranty so when you need another one they'll send it for $1 shipping. And I like the Matte ones because your finger glides over better without sticking to the glossy ones. It does make your screen a little dimmer if that's an issue.
Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up ordering one through the same place where I ordered my case (Smartish), but that is good to know for future options!
We ordered our cases. They are basically a hard rubber bumper with a clear plastic back. We usually don’t use screen protectors but we decided to use them this time.
I went with the blue for Cal and she went with the mint green.
After being an AirPod denialist/disdainist for a couple of years, I finally relented and was dismayed to find that I absolutely love them, so much that I snapped up some AirPod Pros when they were cheap at Costco on Thanksgiving. These over the ear things are a bridge too far for me, both in price and because I have a hairdo to protect.
I'd been using wireless earbuds from RHA (the kind with a strap that goes around your neck), but now I'm seeing that AirPods are at roughly the same price point. Might have to bite the bullet and go with those.
Only thing holding me back is that it seems like the AirPods only hold a charge for 5 hours at at time and some of these others can go 8 hours.
I use mine all day. I do pop them back in the case between calls, but they last quite a while (and they recharge very quickly). The case is good for several full recharges, and I only charge my case every couple/few days. Battery life was my main concern, but it hasn't bothered me at all.
Same. My younger daughter got "regular" ones first, then me. The 18 y.o. has been complaining about being lower-caste in earphones, so Santa is bringing several sets of the AirPod Pros this year.
At first I didn't see the need for these or any headphones since I live alone now. The former mrs was always asking me to turn the music down or to put headphones on so it would have made more sense a few years ago. But I did gift myself the air pod pros with a black friday deal and boy let me tell you, I am a fan.
I prefer the earbuds as well, though I don't have an iPhone so i don't have AirPods. I don't like the over the air large ones. My sister bought me one of the Bose Noise Cancelling ones for my b-day since I was traveling. I didn't get a chance to try them out since Covid happened. I'm not sure I will like them since I rest my head against the window when I sleep on a plane and the noise doesn't bother me. I loaned them to No 1 since he has multiple window AC units. I'll probably ask for them back when I start to travel again so I can try them out. He said they're pretty amazing how well they get rid of the ambient noise.
Beautiful country, heart breaking history since they gained their independence from France. The US and it’s policies toward Haiti, especially in the late 19th and most of 20th century was terrible and largely driven by racism and the south.
It really doesn't seem like you'd be very effective spreading the disease, if the vaccine is working, but I guess if it only works 95% of the time, you wear it for the 5%?
Ya know, it's a bit odd, but I deal with a LOT of people, a lot of essential workers (various trades) a lot of potential tenants looking for housing, still take some of the tenant checks to deposit in banks, although I'm doing this with less frequency. Inspecting problems - I've been really busy this year.
I didn't dive into the metrics that deeply, but I'm similarly well down the priority list. As usual, I'm too old to be young, but not quite old enough to be old. I'm essential, but in the trenches more than on the front lines anymore. And I could probably use a good advocate/agent! ;-)
I feel there are some very vulnerable populations (elderly, homeless, etc.) who should get vaccinated first. I am relatively healthy, I don't take unnecessary chances, and have been compliant since day one. (ok that one time I did go to the bar to have a few beers and tacos, but shhhh).
The homeless around here have started to bug me. I've gotten to know a bunch of them from coming and going on my runs and chatting with them at stoplights. I know they all have masks because I see them when they go into CVS or McD's or wherever. But none of them wears the mask when they're on the corner panhandling.
CNBC: Trump administration passed on a 100m vaccine dose option from Pfizer. No word on what they've done with the tens of millions of hydroxychloroquine doses it does own.
So is Ohio State going to end the season with only 5 wins? On the off chance that USC goes undefeated, I'll listen with great amusement to arguments about why OSU should go to the playoff over USC (the correct answer is that neither should go).

I've seen quite a few things that have said the "republicans fed up with the voting cheating and going to protest by not voting" is something started by the republicans to get their base riled up to vote and to get the dems to be complacent. I believe this.
There are problems related to this yes (specifically, there seems to be a group of people who vote Republican but don't respond to polls), but still the average polling "miss" in 2016 and 2020 was within the typical margin of error. And in 2018 the polls were very accurate.
What 538 and others may have done is make people think polls are more accurate than they ever really were. I don't blame Nate Silver, because he tries to take every opportunity to tell people that a percentage chance is just that, and results on the "wrong" side of that percentage happen all the time. People see a number like 80% and think that means an 80% chance of a blowout, when really it means an 80% chance of anything from a narrow Biden win to a blowout Biden win. That it came in relatively narrow doesn't make the polling "wrong," if you know how to interpret it.
I pay close attention to this, and you're right about them warning readers that they're only dealing in probabilities, BUT they vastly underestimated the number of repub voters Trump turned out which is why all those "close" Senate races weren't close at all, way outside the margin of error.
Texas is apparently suing GA, WI, MI, and PA over their election management - I'm not surprised that the corrupt reactionary Ken Paxton took on this disgrace
why? how did this not get stopped by someone? I understand making a point for your party/leader/etc. but something that is clearly not going anywhere and makes you look like an ass kissing sycophant trying for a pardon (which won't help your state issues).
I'm not sure why Paxton is not in jail as we speak, much less putting out drivel like this. In a state where John freakin Cornyn comes across as the moderate Republican (fuck you Abbot, Patrick, Cruz among many many others), Ken Paxton is a ginormous, steaming pile of diseased dog shit
Politico: House passes defense authorization bill. Senate appears on track to pass. Trump threatened to veto it because he got butt-hurt over Twitter trends that targeted him.
I don't watch much NFL these days but caught a little of this off and on. Pittsburgh, especially on offense, seemed pretty underwhelming for an undefeated team.
They have a bunch of guys on the COVID list and also just played a delayed multiple times game against the Ravens last Wednesday. Furthermore, the Steelers have gotten a bit lucky to be undefeated against a weak schedule.
A very weak schedule. Dynamic rookie WR hase Claypool played his fewest # of snaps since week 2, despite being a big play threat whenever he's on the field.
It always amazes when a coaching staff chooses not to put the football in the hands of their most dangerous threat.

inelastic demand .. i wrote a primer at work trying to explain the difference between elastic and inelastic demand for products.
i used the example that "people will pay anything for an iphone"

Impressive! I try to keep phones for a while, but I've never made it to 6 years.
avg lifespan for me is 3 years. 3G --> 4S --> 6 --> 8 --> 11
6? Damn that's old
I'm also still using a 6 and actually have no plan (yet) to upgrade.
Same here. My wife had a 6 and I had a 7 and we just upgraded this month to the 12.

I'm behind 13.2 Million Californians, or 29 M if my job counts as 'low risk'.
I'm old so have that going for me. But nothing else so have 118 million ahead of me (3 million in Virginia).
I'm 23 millionth in line, but only 2.3 millionth in line in CA, I assume due to risk factors. I don't think I need to be that far up.
I'm curious how that will work. Will my doctor call and say, you have risk factors, now is your time? How will they validate populations?
I'm behind 31 million other Californians.

I guess I'm stuck in the house for another 6-8 months.
Same and that's behind 10.6 Million in PA (out of 12.8M).

same basically
not sure how i feel about that. on one hand great, on the other, aren't there other people more deserving?
1) Why are you not deserving?
2) You work with vulnerable populations
3) When you get vaccinated, that's one more person who is protected, meaning one more part of our community that is protected.
I feel there are some very vulnerable populations (elderly, homeless, etc.) who should get vaccinated first. I am relatively healthy, I don't take unnecessary chances, and have been compliant since day one. (ok that one time I did go to the bar to have a few beers and tacos, but shhhh).

Michigan - OSU game has officially been cancelled.
So is Ohio State going to end the season with only 5 wins? On the off chance that USC goes undefeated, I'll listen with great amusement to arguments about why OSU should go to the playoff over USC (the correct answer is that neither should go).
I for one would happily see SC excluded from being humiliated in a bowl in exchange for sampling buckets of anOSU tears
We could send the loser of the Territorial Cup, as they will be well versed at dealing with not delivering when called upon.
The real correct answer is this season shouldn’t even have happened.
THIS
Yes, and they will be excluded from the B1G title game.
Don’t be so naive, the Big 10 will change their rules to allow OSU to play in the championship game.
I'm genuinely interested to see how the politics and $s work out on this one.
My daughter is over the moon
It will be interesting to see now if B1G just openly panders to OSU and changes their rules....
they totally will. the conference is aOSU plus others. just like the old BIG12 used to be Tx, Ok, and others.

538: Ossoff and Warnock have razor-thin poll leads versus Bond Villain and Eva Braun. 538 also warns to not believe the polls for a second.

I've seen quite a few things that have said the "republicans fed up with the voting cheating and going to protest by not voting" is something started by the republicans to get their base riled up to vote and to get the dems to be complacent. I believe this.
All the polls tell you right now is that the race is close. Which means it could easily go either way.
So basically Warnock will lose by 5 points and Ossof will lose by 10.
"We exist to provide this product. Please do not assume our product is good."
538's line is more like: "We think our method is better than others, but please remember that polls can only tell you so much."
I think since so many repubs have become believers in various conspiracy theories, polling has gotten less accurate.
There are problems related to this yes (specifically, there seems to be a group of people who vote Republican but don't respond to polls), but still the average polling "miss" in 2016 and 2020 was within the typical margin of error. And in 2018 the polls were very accurate.

My guess is trump doesn’t veto the bill because you have to keep that socialism, disguised as defense spending intact.
possibly and yes
My guess is Trump doesn't veto the bill because he's a pushover and his veto threats are always bluffs.
Agreed on both. He always threatens to veto and then signs on the line.
