Mix of snow and ice pellets this morning in northern MD. By the end of the day we should have another 6" of snow. We've had more snow this winter than we've had in the past four winters combined.
Meanwhile, we have had one of the warmest winters in recent memory. We have been on the warm side where the Arctic vortex keep spinning storms north, so it's been raining a ton here.

Most of sleet at least makes it to the ground, whereas much freezing rain stays on trees, power lines, roofs, etc. adding a massive amount of weight that soon breaks stuff down, which breaks other stuff as it falls. Our freezing rain event last weekend did enough damage and created enough mess (many still out of power and water after nearly a week) that the average homeowner was left with hundreds of hours of cleanup and repairs, and thousands of hours for some.
Yeah, last storm the trees were coated with ice from the freezing rain. This time the trees are clear since it was all sleet. There ended up being enough sleet (about 3/4 of an inch) that it made a crunchy coating so I was able to get out for a run without any problems.

Traps and amplifies a little bit of extra heat. We have our outdoor kitchen with pipes so mulch bags on the exterior covering those and the pot under the sink to keep it from freezing and bursting. Working so far.
I'm guessing the candle in the terra cotta warms up the terra cotta providing more heat than if it were just the candle. Also probably more fire safe? Like you could probably put a tea candle under there and boost the heat output.

i have some apple jack at home. it is not that sweet as far as i remember. it is mostly good to have around to give your cocktails some variety.

The east coast trick was to keep a trickle of water running. But that doesn't help if you have hot water heating.

Warriors won a game they had no business winning. No Draymond, Wiseman, Looney. Steph going 5-20 from 3. Ended up hitting 2 in OT. Paschell and Bazemore were nails. Outplayed the other two starters JTA and Mulder.
That was an awesome finish, the last minutes of the 4th and OT.
For a while it looked like neither team wanted to win, kept missing open shots. All the Heat open 3s fell short towards the end of the game. Looked like their legs were gone.
I stopped paying attention at the beginning of the 4th, then with a couple min left I looked up and was pleasantly surprised. Bazemore was fantastic, it's fun having him back on the team and playing so well.

Just a quick wiki search says that the original book had UVA as Stanford, UNC as Cal, and William and Mary as NYU.
I don't think these analogs quite hold up.
Actually, I think I screwed up the analogy. The analog of Cal is actually William and Mary, but the final choice was UNC. The book author is a UNC alum.
UVA/W&M has the geographical proximity of Stanford/Cal. The protagonist opted to go further away to UNC rather than to stay closer to the guy (I've neither read the books nor saw the movies).
