Yeah, last storm the trees were coated with ice from the freezing rain. This time the trees are clear since it was all sleet. There ended up being enough sleet (about 3/4 of an inch) that it made a crunchy coating so I was able to get out for a run without any problems.

Traps and amplifies a little bit of extra heat. We have our outdoor kitchen with pipes so mulch bags on the exterior covering those and the pot under the sink to keep it from freezing and bursting. Working so far.
I'm guessing the candle in the terra cotta warms up the terra cotta providing more heat than if it were just the candle. Also probably more fire safe? Like you could probably put a tea candle under there and boost the heat output.

True, they have developed a lot of their talent, but they also have the $s to comfortably spend them to get differential players like Bauer and Betts, and to retain at least a lot of their differential players, which is as much a problem as purchasing talent is for teams that are limited financially or in terms of front office competence.
I think the Padres are a lot more optimistic about the state of the baseball economic future than many of the other teams. This is not necessarily a bad deal, but it's also unnecessary at this juncture of Tatis' career...why sacrifice that much of the near term financial flexibility, especially if they think that they can win a title (to be fair, they do have a bunch of minor league prospects as capital to make deal).
By the way, when the Padres traded away a past-his-prime James Shield to the White Sox, the arguably better prospect return at the time was Cal alum RHP Erik Johnson (already out of baseball) rather than Tatis.

This is not necessarily a bad deal, but it's also unnecessary at this juncture of Tatis' career...why sacrifice that much of the near term financial flexibility, especially if they think that they can win a title (to be fair, they do have a bunch of minor league prospects as capital to make deal).
By the way, when the Padres traded away a past-his-prime James Shield to the White Sox, the arguably better prospect return at the time was Cal alum RHP Erik Johnson (already out of baseball) rather than Tatis.

Just a quick wiki search says that the original book had UVA as Stanford, UNC as Cal, and William and Mary as NYU.
I don't think these analogs quite hold up.
Actually, I think I screwed up the analogy. The analog of Cal is actually William and Mary, but the final choice was UNC. The book author is a UNC alum.
UVA/W&M has the geographical proximity of Stanford/Cal. The protagonist opted to go further away to UNC rather than to stay closer to the guy (I've neither read the books nor saw the movies).
