A warehouse club (or wholesale club) is a retail store, usually selling a wide variety of merchandise, in which customers may buy large, wholesale quantities of the store's products, which makes these clubs attractive to both bargain hunters and small business owners. My work apparently got us passes to the Columbia Employee Discount store in Richmond. I didn't know there was such a store there, but I'm also not the target demographic, given how bad I am at nature.
I didn't know there was a Columbia Employee Discount store here either. I went to the one in Portland when I worked at the mothership. Their prices are extremely good. I highly recommend it if you need any sort of outdoor gear.
That or the North Face outlet off Gilman. The prices there are always amazing and they frequently have additional sales off their already amazing prices.
To add to this, I'm allowed 4 guests (I think), so if you guys are interested, we can plan a trip sometime before it expires on July 11. (I'm staying at my parents' in the Tri-Valley right now, though, so we just have to figure out the timing).
I'm glad that this is now a federal holiday. Recognition of past wrongs is critical to moving forward as a multicultural and diverse nation.
Also, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop on the holidays at work. My guess is that Juneteenth may be added, but some other holiday will be discontinued.

Not really membership warehouse shopping, but does anyone remember catalog stores, like Consumer's Distributing and Service Merchandise? Basically one large room with some display cabinets. You could see some of the items but you can also look through a large catalog, place an order, and they would bring it out for you. There was one in Pleasant Hill.
Similarly, BEST, had full stores with everything on display in a full showroom, you placed an order and it came down from a conveyor belt. The Best Buy by the Sunvalley Mall in Concord used to be a BEST. They also had a few stores with very original designs.
i think we had a wedding registry at Service Merchandise in Orlando because my wife knew that people would buy stuff for us from there even if we didnt register. so, by having a registry we were able to return everything for cash.
Big box discount stores never worked in Singapore. We had Carrefour, the French version of Walmart that used to carry Costco's Kirkland brand. They closed down because the market was too small to make logistics cost effective, land was too expensive, and the vast majority of Singaporeans can't afford a car so it's not practical to haul big box stuff in a taxi.
I thought Carrefour is a grocery store/convenience store chain. I have been to a few in France/Belgium. Or at least they have some small stores right by or in train stations (or it's another chain with a similar name).

Costco ended up being a net negative for us because the savings we'd get on staples would be more than offset by impulse buys we didn't need. I let my membership lapse because I didn't spawn enough loin goblins to make it worthwhile.
The Costcos in the area are usually so jammed the time it takes to do business there is so great it makes the savings available often seem not worth the time.
What about gas? Not counting the driving to get there, I've seen prices 20-40 cents cheaper per gallon. Even at just 10 gallons a week, that's $2-4 savings per week which is $104-208 savings per year.
In college my roommates and I would go once a month and stock up on the unhealthiest stuff. Bagel dogs, pizza rolls, burritos, spaghetti sauce, etc.
We very rarely DO NOT fill-up at Costco because of the aforementioned price differential. We fill-up on Costco gas only when we're shopping at the store otherwise or are close to the warehouse anyhow (within 1.5 miles) on another errand or on our way out of town to Sonoma County or Sacramento County.
We also did have the chicken cordon bleus as well. Oh and chicken nuggets. We had my parent's old toaster oven and one time we packed so many chicken nuggets in there they caught on fire a little.
If you leave near enough one, it may well be worth it. The closest costco gas stations to me are 25 & 35 miles away, and they're not on the way to anywhere I need to be. I think maybe Maryland Costco locations just suck 😂
I thought the Beltsville Costco was conveniently located near College Park. But IIRC, I thought the gas stations near it also had gas that was cheaper than other places.
The only time when Costco would have been useful for me was when I had children in diapers... and since it was a lengthy round trip to the nearest one at the time, the savings would have just gone to covering the gas use. So we never bothered.

I have a little bit of a confession to make. I was a tiny bit scared of the San Francisco Giants four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It had nothing to with a lack of faith in the Giants.
It had nothing to do with San Francisco mustering a paltry three runs in their previous four games.
It had everything to do with the Diamondbacks being unsustainably bad.
It’s not that I thought the Diamondbacks would break out of their awful slump, which saw them enter Oracle Park on a 10-game losing streak, with 27 losses in their last 30 games, and 19 consecutive defeats on the road. I didn’t think that at all. I promise, there was not pessimism coursing through my veins.
The last time that the DBacks won on the road was when they swept the Braves in a double-header, including MadBum's not-official-no-hitter. I curse at them silently, in my mind that day; apparently, I may have a superpower.
Even so, I understand that Yankee Stadium 2.0 is not a true replica as there are differences in seating and amenities between Yankee Stadium 1.2 and 2.0.
But, as my mother-in-law is fond of saying, whatever.
Some guy came in last in his Fantasy Football League - so as punishment, he had to spend 24 hours in a Waffle House. He could reduce his time by eating 1 Waffle = 1 less hour. He's on 6 Waffles and ten hours to go as of right now
I was very surprised by how that thread went viral. Maybe it's just me, but I think spending half a day at a Waffle Hous and eating something like 12 waffles in 3 stints would be very very doable. This guy apparently had a few podcasts ready, but even if you can't just watch some movies/games to pass the time. My normal-ish days (occasionally pre-COVID but definitely the past year plus) are like this except that I would need to track to a Waffle House or some other place to be fed food.
I'll never forget my one and only time eating at a Waffle House:

OMG the food here must have been the best in the whole of the state, because they had two (two!) armed guards to protect it! We never have any food that’s so fancy in California that it requires that much protection.
As told by Cugel’s son OaktownRush: The Waffle House has the ambiance of a high school cafeteria filled with 25-35 year old felons. Florescent lighting, armed guards, greasy food — it had it all and I was in love. The food was affordable on any budget and my hash browns left a visible puddle on my plate. Waffle House in California might lead me down a road to morbid obesity, but on a road trip, it just doesn’t get any better.
Similarly, I have a fond memory of my family stopping by a Waffle House for food in the middle of the night drive.
While living in the DC area, there was kind of a bubble (between DC and Baltimore) where there was no Waffle House, but you can find one by going in every direction out of it. I have eaten at the one north of Baltimore but south of Delaware several times (often at 2-3 AM when I was the only customer.
I think there are some more urban locations, particularly in college towns and I am sure that's a different experience. The Waffle House stand is also one of the more popular concessions at SunTrust/Truist Park in Atlanta. I thought the food is solid and it has that feeling of reliability (even if I have personally observed the cook being somewhat visibly upset when I pulled up at 3 AM and he is out smoking).
Now living in Pittsburgh, there isn't one that is close to me but in towns 20-30 miles away. I think it is another Waffle House near Columbus but I have stopped at one in that area when I was driving back from Cincinnati once.
I've been there once, with No 1 in Raleigh right before he dropped me off at the airport. No 3 and I used to do Huddl House which is like a more upscale WH. Biscuits stacked with sausages, hash browns, cheese, covered in gravy. MMMM

My normal-ish days (occasionally pre-COVID but definitely the past year plus) are like this except that I would need to track to a Waffle House or some other place to be fed food.
Everyone says it's doable until it's time to do it. I'll buy waffles 9-12, Ruey.
I'll never forget my one and only time eating at a Waffle House:
After landing at the beeuutiful Columbus airport, we made sure the rental car wasn’t red, checked into the swank airport Embassy Suites, and sought sustenance. It being after midnight by this point, options were few, but then we saw the burning letters in the fragrant Ohio night sky, and knew we were saved:

OMG the food here must have been the best in the whole of the state, because they had two (two!) armed guards to protect it! We never have any food that’s so fancy in California that it requires that much protection.
As told by Cugel’s son OaktownRush: The Waffle House has the ambiance of a high school cafeteria filled with 25-35 year old felons. Florescent lighting, armed guards, greasy food — it had it all and I was in love. The food was affordable on any budget and my hash browns left a visible puddle on my plate. Waffle House in California might lead me down a road to morbid obesity, but on a road trip, it just doesn’t get any better.
Similarly, I have a fond memory of my family stopping by a Waffle House for food in the middle of the night drive.
While living in the DC area, there was kind of a bubble (between DC and Baltimore) where there was no Waffle House, but you can find one by going in every direction out of it. I have eaten at the one north of Baltimore but south of Delaware several times (often at 2-3 AM when I was the only customer.
I think there are some more urban locations, particularly in college towns and I am sure that's a different experience. The Waffle House stand is also one of the more popular concessions at SunTrust/Truist Park in Atlanta. I thought the food is solid and it has that feeling of reliability (even if I have personally observed the cook being somewhat visibly upset when I pulled up at 3 AM and he is out smoking).
Now living in Pittsburgh, there isn't one that is close to me but in towns 20-30 miles away. I think it is another Waffle House near Columbus but I have stopped at one in that area when I was driving back from Cincinnati once.

I've been there once, with No 1 in Raleigh right before he dropped me off at the airport. No 3 and I used to do Huddl House which is like a more upscale WH. Biscuits stacked with sausages, hash browns, cheese, covered in gravy. MMMM
WH is all over Georgia. I ate there once...

U of Arkansas chancellor resigns. This was after a Twitter account published unflattering photos of him. He said the photos were faked. His resignation comes after a Board of Trustees panel had a hearing and decided to do nothing. Photos not available.

Ranking the 2021 college football quarterbacks in tiers: From Heisman contenders to up-and-comers. Chase Garbers isn't even listed in the five tiers. Somewhat of a snub.

Garbers definitely could play his way onto that list of top 50 or some-odd QBs in the nation, but he's gonna have to stay healthy for the full slate, and make more consistent throws...if they grasp Musgrave's O, tho, and stay relatively healthy, it can come together. Be nice to find some explosive plays here and there, tho.
