Yes, every day I have a video call with my coworkers outside Philly (to say nothing of Houston and Florida), I have to resist the urge to taunt them with my local weather report here in the Bay.

I suspect that our oldest son's GF doesn't like corn on the cob. We were celebrating our youngest's birthday this past Sunday. The menu included burgers, mac salad, and corn on the cob. I brought out the corncob holders (aka little stabby things) and offered them to everyone. The GF declined a pair of little stabby things. There was no corn on the cob on her plate.
I didn't ask, but I suspect she doesn't like corn on the cob.
i am ok w/ banana bread. i think it is the smell that gets to me the most. but the soggy texture of a slightly ripe banana really turns me off too.
on the other hand i know it is something of an athletic super food. i used to have one every day on my way to play basketball when i was in grad school. kept me from getting cramps and feeling terrible afterwards.
nowadays when i do supported bike rides there are often bananas at the snack and refuel tents. if there are moderately firm/green ones i can bring myself to eat one
I do like the salty-sweet combo of chocolate and pretzel, but the one that I don't get is chocolate and citrus even though sour-sweet makes a lot of sense.
I've had it fried once or twice, and it was acceptable, but I just don't think I'd ever think "I really want to eat some okra today". The taste is fine, but I'm not a fan of the slimy texture. Which is weird, because I loved okra as a kid.
Business ethics 101
When web revenues are sagging, do you:
a) brainstorm and then execute on interesting new content
b) expend into new channels like podcasts, newsletters, and such
c) use fictitious accounts to create disingenuous interactions (aka the "Ashley Madison")

It has been over 123 degrees in Baghdad for three days straight. It was 125 yesterday. Yeesh.

But is it a dry heat?
dry, like your oven roasting a turkey.
That reminds me of a goofy t-shit I saw on the Navajo Rez (worn by a white guy):
A prostrate man, drying of thirst, watched by a vulture, exclaiming "But it's a DRY heat"
I suspect that it’s awful either way
It's been nasty in the midwest and Philly. Hot and humid.
Only two days this month that it hasn't reached at least 90 in DC. Today was OK though as humidity stayed below 50%.

Anybody watch Last Chance U last night? Want to guess how many of my buildings were featured?
Also, re: TV, what the second best Korean show after Reply 1988? And why is it called "Reply"? (Not the hospital show in the Pandemic)
I saw episode 1, definitely saw one of your buildings from a freeway shot, and another one was very close to the overpass and railroad tracks shot.

Oh, they had a little party down in Newport;
There was Harry, there was Mary, there was Grace.
Oh, they had a little party down in Newport,
And they had to carry Harry from the place.
Oh, they had to carry Harry to the ferry,
And the ferry carried Harry to the shore;
And the reason that they had to carry Harry to the ferry
Was that Harry couldn’t carry any more.
For California, for California,
The hills send back the cry,
We’re out to do or die,
For California, for California,
We’ll win the game or know the reason why.
And when the game is over, we will buy a keg of booze,
And drink to California ‘till we wobble in our shoes.
So drink, tra la la,
Drink, tra la la,
Drink, drank, drunk last night,
Drunk the night before;
Gonna get drunk tonight
Like I never got drunk before;
For when I’m drunk, I’m as happy as can be
For I am member of the Souse family.
Now the Souse family is the best family
That ever came over from old Germany.
There’s the Highland Dutch, and the Lowland Dutch,
The Rotterdam Dutch, and the Irish.
Sing glorious, victorious,
One keg of beer for the four of us.
Sing glory be to God that there are no more of us,
For one of us could drink it all alone. Damn near.
Here’s to the Irish, dead drunk. The lucky stiffs….
What fairly normal food do you really dislike?
Corn on the cob. I'm the only one I know that doesn't like it. My wife and kids make fun of me for this, but whatever, more for them, I guess.
I prefer it boiled, but if grilled, it’s great when rubbed with chilli/salt/lime
I suspect you are the only one anyone knows that doesn't like it.
I think it's fine, but I don't like how it gets stuck in my teeth.
I used to really not care for it. But now like it just fine, especially really fresh stuff.
Bell peppers/capsicum. Sun-dried tomatoes. Honeydew and cantaloupe
Does beer count? All alcohol, really, but especially beer.
bananas. my mom tells me i loved them as a kid, but i really just cant stand them anymore
I forgot to include bananas and all banana derivatives on my list
Is it the texture or the flavor? How do you feel about banana bread?
i am ok w/ banana bread. i think it is the smell that gets to me the most. but the soggy texture of a slightly ripe banana really turns me off too.
on the other hand i know it is something of an athletic super food. i used to have one every day on my way to play basketball when i was in grad school. kept me from getting cramps and feeling terrible afterwards.

Brussel sprouts. Used to hate them, now I like them.
This is why you like them now.

chocolate and pretzel combos. Just tastes like overly salty chocolate, with the yeasty pretzel aftertaste.
I do like the salty-sweet combo of chocolate and pretzel, but the one that I don't get is chocolate and citrus even though sour-sweet makes a lot of sense.
I would not describe that combo as "normal"
Pocky would like to have a word with you outside, Cugel.
Isn't Pocky essentially a Petit Ecolier in stick form?
Pocky?
You haven't had Pocky?
https://pocky.com/
Pocky is good, but it is a biscuit...Toppo is the one of interest perhaps
https://www.japancandystore.com/toppo-milk-chocolate-pretzel-sticks
the chocolate is hazelnut-y. blows pocky out of the water! ;-)
in fact, I think I have some here, so need to start eating some...
I read DBD everyday and haven't commented in many weeks; sad that this is the topic that changes that!
Nope, but those aren't pretzels - that's the weird part, chocolate covered biscuits are perfectly fine.
I love Pocky and make no apologies for it
I don't love okra... but I'll eat it. I don't think there's a "normal" food out there I really hate.
Have you tried it deep fried? It’s delicious that way
I've had it fried once or twice, and it was acceptable, but I just don't think I'd ever think "I really want to eat some okra today". The taste is fine, but I'm not a fan of the slimy texture. Which is weird, because I loved okra as a kid.
sauerkraut, kimchee. those fermented vegetable things.
Sauerkraut is indispensable in a Reuben.
I’ll take those off your hands
Tomatoes. Not if they are mashed up into a sauce or ketchup or whatever, that's fine. But whole tomatoes, no thanks.
Mushrooms (don’t mind the flavor, not a fan of the texture), zucchini (texture), eggplant, peanut butter, deli-style pickles
mushrooms, tomatoes, any kind of shellfish, zucchini, eggplant, squash, ham (but love bacon and other kinds of pork), hot dogs
Man...
Turnips
Broccoli and cauliflower.
Oh honey, that's just the start...
What else do I hate other than cilantro?
The smell of coffee! Dijon mustard! Many more I'm sure I'm forgetting.
The smell of coffee is far superior to the taste of coffee
100%. I don't drink coffee because I don't like the taste, but I do love coffee ice cream, for example.
I don't hate dijon, I just prefer other mustards. I cook w/dijon when a recipe calls for it, have a jar in the fridge.
Mmmm, I thought of one -- salmon.
In all its forms?
yup
Name something that you'd wish robots would do sooner rather than later

Have you guys read Scythe by Neal Shusterman? At this point, I’ll take an all-knowing benevolent AI overlord
I read it recently (maybe two weeks ago), based on a recommendation from my 6th grade teacher. I liked it!
Also, you’re in touch with your sixth grade teacher?!
We should be GoodReads friends so that I can bombard you with recs, please&thankyou.

I really enjoyed Short Circuit as a kid and was disappointed to learn that the "Indian" character was actually a white dude in brownface.
Apparently Aziz Ansari had a similar reaction and talked with Fisher Stevens about the role in 2015.

Thanks for the link! I remember Aziz talking about it in Master of None and definitely related.
Well you can understand that, there’s a distinct shortage of Indian actors who speak English
