I finally got my return trip ticket after I decided not to go to Philly after the game.
Now I need to find a place to stay. Trying to decide if I should AirBNB near the stadium $$$$ or just get a hotel away from there. Since I'm going to the baseball game, I wonder if I should look near there.
is a very nice place. in fact we are seriously thinking of a second home up here.
any 2nd home advice? do's? dont's?
we are working remotely here all week and enjoying the outdoors as well as the amenities of a pretty nice little town w/ just enough good food and vibrant downtown
If I'm not mistaken, Burlington is a really long drive for you. Long drives are a serious barrier. It turns a house from a weekender to a seasonal home. Seasonal homes are best rented by the week rather than purchased because the opportunity + operating costs outweigh rental costs.
And conventionally sized. We bought some longer pillows a while back and even though we have pillowcases designed to fit them, they always manage to slip out a bit. It's annoying waking up in the middle of the night and having to re-sheath a pillow.
Late to the game today, but it’s buckwheat husks (sobakawa). And they are good pillows! Good support. And work well in hot weather. I have one in bed, but sometimes use it as a base under a typical American pillow for a bit more height.
Daughter is a very good 9th grader(in rural WA area where volleyball was a bigger deal than one would expect). Now that we've relocated to Fremont, we're interested to see if her skills translate to the big city.
He may agree;-)...I still endorse cornering him in DFW, tho, and recommend all DBD’ers in attendance bring a washcloth and a bar of soap, a la Private Pyle’s beat down scene in Full Metal Jacket...
I love me a ham sandwich. French style on a baguette with butter, between two slices of bread with mayo and mustard, in a grilled cheese, whatever. You hand me a ham sammy, I'm gonna be happy. I have recently discovered that the Boars Head low-sodium ham is just as delicious as the regular and now it even feels virtuous.
I could live off of them. Nothing fancy, just some solid ham, a slice of cheddar or gouda, plain mayo and yellow mustard between two pieces of white bread. I always have these items in my pantry.
Isn't this and the six figure Kayvon Thibodeoux deal exactly what the SCOTUS said is a slippery slope toward straight professionalism in college football?
Thibs has a _six figure_ deal?! I'm happy to see the athletes get what they deserve, but this looks like it will only exacerbate the current unequal landscape of college football.
It will really be really interesting to see this all play out. Definitely will cause everything to stratify, and probably lead to a ton of transfers. Although cutting the other way, no one will want to be a back up on a top team. Better to get exposure now, right?
Well. it's been about six weeks since MTG equated wearing masks during a pandemic to the Jews treatment during WWII to a visit to the Holocausts Museum and made a public apology that she definitely learned her lesson. Well, yesterday, she equated door-to-door vaccination to WWII fascism. I did nazi this coming.
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AR) says it was a 1/6 pep rally, not a call for insurrection like... well... you know... like all the stuff he said. He didn't do it and if he did it, he can't be prosecuted because he's a Federal employee and Trump made him do it.
The only real discovery will find exactly what he doesn't want. Which is that social media companies kid glove right wingers and racists, until they are unsustainable. The only reason FB put him on a two year time out is because he was starting to cost them users and add revenue.
A game that featured three total runs somehow lasted four and a half hours, a maddening affair by two teams, had to have a winner. After several fledgling attempts by both sides, the Marlins got their second straight win over the Dodgers, this one 2-1 in 10 innings thanks to a wild pitch and throwing error on Tuesday night in Miami.
Blake Treinen, who got the final out of the ninth inning, got the first two outs in the bottom of the 10th with the free runner on second. But a wild pitch allowed Starling Marte to reach third base, exacerbated by a bad throw by catcher Will Smith that got away from Justin Turner at third base, sending Marte home with the game winner.
that last penalty from Italy was the soccer equivalent of shit-talking - or so I thought until I saw the replay of the penalties from Colombia - Argentina in Copa America last night
He looked better than I expected, at least in the first half. I was wary of a potential Kevin Durant scenario where he'd back too soon and sustain a much worse injury.
I'm surprised he's back at all. That was an awful-looking hyperextension.
A's defeated by the Stros 9-6, squandering a 6-2 lead and numerous opportunities to blow the game wide open in the early innings. Once again a runner was thrown out at the plate. Slip to 11 games above .500 and 4.5 games behind Houston.

Not to be confused with DSW, headquartered in Columbus.
I just put the deposit down for the tailgate tent.
Nice!

We're at an AirBnB a mile from the TCU football stadium if that helps.
Could I park at your place if I stay further away?
Absolutely
awesome. Looks like plenty of places E of campus.
According to Google maps, our AirBnb is in the Bluebonnet neighborhood. I’ll start a thread in tomorrows DBD.
Arlington has tons of hotels and isnt that far. At least by Texas standards
Luckily the cowboys are out of town so I don't have to fight boys fans for places to stay.

it is about 5 hours. i agree it is far for weekends which is sort of why we never got a weekend ski place in the northeast.
but the idea w/ more and more remote work is to be at 2nd home for stretches of 5-10 days in multiple seasons ...
and as kids go off to college, we would spend even longer stretches and more often

How do you prefer your pillow?

Soft and supportive. An overstuffed down pillow for the first five years of its life before it gets too flat.
You can try to throw it in the dryer on no or low heat to fluff it back up. Lasts for a little bit of time.
Firm and dense
Which is funnily not what you're looking for in a romantic partner though.
You naughty boy - I left that one alone.
Fluffy and supporting.
And conventionally sized. We bought some longer pillows a while back and even though we have pillowcases designed to fit them, they always manage to slip out a bit. It's annoying waking up in the middle of the night and having to re-sheath a pillow.
That sounds vaguely dirty.
something something dirty pillows
i am not that picky, but i sort of like the HARD ones that you get in a Japanese ryokan. i think they are stuffed w/ something similar to corn husks.
Late to the game today, but it’s buckwheat husks (sobakawa). And they are good pillows! Good support. And work well in hot weather. I have one in bed, but sometimes use it as a base under a typical American pillow for a bit more height.

stoicism does suit me rather well
a soft goose down pillow that isn't flat.
we dont have a Casper mattress, but their pillows are pretty good. soft yet not flat ..

I was always too short to be competitive, but I felt comfortable playing in pickup games in Berkeley in my student days.

one of the grad students in my research group was an Olympic hopeful and he used me and this other guy as target practice
Newellbany plays a mean game of it...
Why has he forsaken us??
It's a mystery. He changed jobs and I believe daytime internet access is limited. But we can corner him in DFW and get an answer.
Then I think a job change is in order
He may agree;-)...I still endorse cornering him in DFW, tho, and recommend all DBD’ers in attendance bring a washcloth and a bar of soap, a la Private Pyle’s beat down scene in Full Metal Jacket...
Ham sandwich
Not my favorite, but occasionally, a couple of slices of french ham with cultured butter on a fresh french baguette is GREAT.
Also, a whore

all this ham sandwich talk made me hungry.
for lunch ... i bought a baguette from a local bakery along w/ some good samuli ham and local VT butter.
This man hams, as well.
...don't get Scootie started.
I could live off of them. Nothing fancy, just some solid ham, a slice of cheddar or gouda, plain mayo and yellow mustard between two pieces of white bread. I always have these items in my pantry.
A couple of days ago I did ham, smoked gouda, on homemade sourdough slice in a panini press. Yum.
That does sound good.
This man hams.
Oh, now that I think about it I should get the Boar's Head Rosemary and Sundried Tomato Ham. That would be even better.

Uh yeah, for the life of me I can not understand the Nicks of the college football world; a serious disconnect.
Thibs has a _six figure_ deal?! I'm happy to see the athletes get what they deserve, but this looks like it will only exacerbate the current unequal landscape of college football.
Yeah, now all the best athletes will go to Alabama and only Bama and Clemson will play for the national championship.
he got a 6 figure deal to go there, this just starts to legitimize it (and add to it)
