Food trucks at Memorial. Started a couple of years ago. Definitely an upgrade to the food offered at the kiosks around the stadium. Though I have had the peroshkis on occasion from the East side walkway.
I've had the chicken strips, Ok if uninspired. One time I got garlic fries (Big Game, 2018) and they gave me 2 pounds of fries or enough for a whole family. Plus it was raining and we lost to Furd.
My iPhone X is now out of warranty. It’s working fine so I wasn’t planning to replace it, but then I saw various (well sourced) rumors that Apple might be fiddling with battery design to accommodate 5G hardware and that nobody is sure how they’re going to implement 5G (regionally, by model, etc) and now I’m thinking about just buying a current model rather than waiting a year so that I’m not part of the usual “customer as beta tester” mayhem
I wouldn't say my iPhone 6 is still going STRONG, but...well, I'm still using it, and it's not like I'm going anywhere these days, so battery life is less important. I was thisclose to getting the iPhone SE because:
1) it's not smaller, but at least it's not larger
2) it's cheaper than the other ones
3) presumably it's still nicer than my 6
But my dad convinced me to wait until 5G, and again, I'm not going anywhere.
The only real downside of a 6 is it’s no longer covered by iOS updates - eventually that will affect your apps. But not immediately. And as you say, most of us aren’t going anywhere
Not proud to admit, but there was a 2-year stretch late in the Tedford-era where I went through a phone a season...kind of like when he slammed the clipboard after the Kevin Riley/OSU clock debacle. I specifically remember needing to replace a late-2000's model Samsung Galaxy following our UNR debacle on national tv in Reno v. Kaepernick...it's better now that I've given up all hope of the Rose and Sun Bowls in my lifetime and set my sights on the Alamo...
Last year it somehow ended up on the side of the road and the glass back spidered, and there is a crack and some pixel damage on the front. It gradually has expanded over the course of the year. I doubt a case would have saved it, but regardless, no.
I just got the older daughter and missus sorted out with 11s on the grounds that they didn’t have any requirements that merited a pro or 12. Not sure if my wife will remember that I said the Pro is overkill should I buy one tho 😬
Usually the Pixel "a" devices are lower cost devices but they have the same great camera. For example my Pixel 3 has a metal case with a faster processor than the 3a I got No 2. They both have the same camera so I imagine I'd be fine with the 3a. The 3a was probably half the cost of the Pixel 3. It isn't like the iPhone 's' versions that usually were faster in the same form factor.
i was thinking of getting a Pixel phone since i have the Google Fi plan and only a few phones can really take advantage of the network switching thing.
not sure if i should wait for 5G version, or even the Pixel 5 later this year. i am perfectly happy w/ my Galaxy 9.
I love my Pixel phone, partly because of the vanilla Android that is on it. I hate the other phones where the manufacturer puts on their own apps that I don't want. You get immediate updates to Android. I've had 4 Google phones now. Nexus 4, Nexus 5, 5x, and Pixel 3.
The only thing you miss out on, sometimes, is being able to see the phone. I guess starting with Pixel 2, Google has partnered with service providers like Verizon and TMobile.
I would think about google fi, but the way my kids use data, it would probably cost more. Tmobile has the free MLB at bat as well as free streaming for some apps.
that's a good deal. I think I had something similar when I got my 3. I think it was on sale for 599 from 799, maybe. How do you like your XL? I've always thought the XLs were too big. Like it would be uncomfortable to keep in my pocket.
Not sure if anyone here watched The Night Of, a crime miniseries where Turturro plays the lead defense attorney. He took over the role after James Gandolfini died and was really great in it.
Re: Ella Enchanted, my daughter thinks it's a good movie, after watching Stardust, she was contending that it was closer to The Princess Bride - I disagree.
I haven't seen it, I guess the best thing I've seen him is either Barton Fink or O Bother Where Art Thou (which I enjoyed more, hard to believe it came out 20 years ago)
I was explaining to my kids that living in Northern Europe in the 70s it was not unusual to find people who didn’t think that Italians or Spaniards were genuinely white, and then when they were appalled by that pointed out that you can find northern Italians who still think that about southern Italians. Tricky thing, trying to nail down bigotry.
Alan Dundes (Anthro 160) called them "Smolgarians", a generic term for the local ethnic minority looked down upon by others. Every group has a Smolgarian.
I remember seeing him in Barton Fink. I can't remember if that was before or after I watched Do The Right Thing. Probably just a bit after since I don't think I watched Do the Right Thing in the theaters.
Sometimes. When I worked by Farragut Sq in DC I actually put on weight despite regular visits to the office gym because of the food trucks - there was a really good Ethiopian truck and one called the Cajunator which contributed to that quite a bit.
The key to good food truck faire is to see who is doing the cooking. If the taco truck has a pre-teen mexican girl cooking, or her grandmother - winner.
A few distance runners would have to decide between XC and indoor track but otherwise it seems like it could work. It wouldn't be ideal for runners in cold, snowy climes but better than nothing.
I don't even understand this idea, politically speaking. It sounds to me at most just like a rationalization of his approach of doing absolutely fucking nothing about the virus except pretend the pandemic is over, and let's call that the "herd immunity" approach. But *actual* herd immunity isn't going to happen in time for the election, and if we actually did go back to normal life there would be a ton of mass sickness and death in the meantime, which... would kill his election chances. So this is pretty much just bullshit, right?
There are swing states in the B1G footprint, and the appearance of facilitating the resumption of football could sway some votes. The lack of swing states in the Pac-12 footprint is why something similar isn't being discussed there.
My first thought was "Man, this administration is despicable" - but my second thought was "these morons, only the Fox News crowd is going to believe this shit, and you already have them in the bag" - this is like the "caravans" in 2018 - it ain't gonna work you tiny brained morons.
I go to lots of games and don't think I've ever bought a hot dog there. For $8 you can get a brat or Italian sausage and that's usually the direction I go.

We could have been reveling in a Cal win this last weekend, but no.
Thanks, Trump
Would've gotten to check out the Raiders new stadium. Thanks, trump
in general the food at CMS sucks, but the food trucks were a welcome change.
Food in da club is good.
Don't get the nachos at the Gridiron, word to the wise...
I don't buy any food at CMS

I think I got chicken strips for No 3 and have gotten cokes.
I've had the chicken strips, Ok if uninspired. One time I got garlic fries (Big Game, 2018) and they gave me 2 pounds of fries or enough for a whole family. Plus it was raining and we lost to Furd.
Pointless consumption

I'm an "every other model" person. I love my 11 pro +.
My XR needs replacing due to significant body damage. I am going to wait to see the 12s, and then may pick up an 11Pro for cheaper, depending.
What happened??? And does this change your opinion on phone cases?
Last year it somehow ended up on the side of the road and the glass back spidered, and there is a crack and some pixel damage on the front. It gradually has expanded over the course of the year. I doubt a case would have saved it, but regardless, no.

the price difference will quickly be forgotten. 3 camera lens is awesome!
Just got a Google 4XL in May. Now they have come out with the Pixel 4a, can't ever catch up with the technology curve.

OK. Mine was on sale for $750 from the google store. About $300 off the original price..

I like it a lot. I've even used the Nightsight feature to capture images of the stars, planets, and the Milky Way.

John Turturro

Re: Ella Enchanted, my daughter thinks it's a good movie, after watching Stardust, she was contending that it was closer to The Princess Bride - I disagree.
Hmm . . . I assume she originally saw it as a young kid? It's hard to trust your judgments of movies you imprinted on as a child.
I haven't seen it, I guess the best thing I've seen him is either Barton Fink or O Bother Where Art Thou (which I enjoyed more, hard to believe it came out 20 years ago)
Seeing him randomly mentioned as a topic here made me think he died or something...
his best role was the Jesus in the Big Lebowski
I thought Jim Caviezel was Jesus...
One of those movies I have had no interest in watching.
Is Jesus a Person of Interest?
Jesus was the first man of color to be killed by the police state

There are lots of ill-treated minorities in China, even though they all look Chinese to us/me. And I’m 98% Chinese ancestry.
My wife's family was from Milan and they genuinely held that point of view. Somewhat disconcerting.
Alan Dundes (Anthro 160) called them "Smolgarians", a generic term for the local ethnic minority looked down upon by others. Every group has a Smolgarian.
Turturro, Clooney, and Tim Blake Nelson (Buster Scruggs) were fantastic in O Brother Where Art Thou.
An all time classic.
I remember seeing him in Barton Fink. I can't remember if that was before or after I watched Do The Right Thing. Probably just a bit after since I don't think I watched Do the Right Thing in the theaters.
Do vehicles make you voracious?
Sometimes. When I worked by Farragut Sq in DC I actually put on weight despite regular visits to the office gym because of the food trucks - there was a really good Ethiopian truck and one called the Cajunator which contributed to that quite a bit.
there are a lot of good food trucks in the world. the best i think i have had are
Austin - Veracruz for breakfast tacos/migas
NYC - Biryani Cart on the corner for 46th and 6th
The key to good food truck faire is to see who is doing the cooking. If the taco truck has a pre-teen mexican girl cooking, or her grandmother - winner.
