I would say I don't like tofu, BUT, I did enjoy it once at a wedding reception at a Chinese restaurant off of 101 in Palo Alto. Flavored quite deliciously. (it's just a sponge)

For me tofu is more a thing to add into a dish with other flavorful ingredients, not the main attraction unto itself.

Expand full comment

Yep, this. It works well in a dish like ma po tofu, or in a Thai curry, when it can just soak up flavor.

About 2 weeks ago, Iowa cut MSWIM, WSWIM, MGYM, MTEN. They just gave their FB coaches a small raise. It's a business, folks.

Oakland A’s series against Mariners postponed, rescheduled as doubleheaders

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2020/9/1/21417272/oakland-as-schedule-postpone-series-seattle-mariners-coronavirus-doubleheader

The Oakland A’s three-game series against the Seattle Mariners has been officially postponed, the team announced on Tuesday. The soonest they might return to action would be Friday at home against the San Diego Padres.

The A’s have been sitting out since Sunday, when they announced a positive coronavirus test among their traveling team and staff. They missed the finale of their series against the Houston Astros that afternoon and were soon ruled out of the Tue/Wed Mariners games, and now they’re pushing back the Thursday meeting as well.

Fortunately, all signs currently point toward a return sooner than later. The team received another full slate of negatives in their second round of follow-up testing, taken Monday, reports Susan Slusser of the S.F. Chronicle. The Thursday game is being postponed “out of an abundance of caution to allow for continued testing and contact tracing,” per a club press release.

It seems like this might really impact the A's momentum and pose a challenge for the pitching staff.

Expand full comment

I assume they'll do 3 double headers in a row the next scheduled series. 2 seven inning games a day but with the expanded rosters (28) and the double header allowing an additional player that doesn't need to be optioned, they should be able to have plenty of pitching. If the starter can go 5 innings each game then it only means 4 innings of relief a day.

I think they'll probably be alright as long as there aren't too many double headers in a row.

Julio Urías efficient in Dodgers’ win over Diamondbacks

https://www.truebluela.com/2020/9/1/21417724/julio-urias-efficient-dodgers-chris-taylor-rbi-diamondbacks-recap

Dave Roberts said he’d like Julio Urías to be more efficient, and the left-hander delivered in a 6-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Urías allowed only one run on four hits in six innings, striking out five while walking none for the second time this season. The only run was a solo home run by Carson Kelly in the third inning, which was followed by two one-out singles, giving Arizona another scoring threat.

But Urías settled down, retiring the next 11 batters faced to close out his night. He retired the side in order in four of his six innings. Urías entered Tuesday averaging 17.1 pitches per inning this season, the highest on the staff. But against Arizona he needed only 78 pitches to finish his six innings, 13 per frame.

le Tour de France ...

... is my favorite sporting event to watch.

it was postponed this year, started on Aug 29, riders wear masks before/after but not while riding. most roadside spectators are wearing masks.

this is my morning ritual for 21 days. make 3 espressos, watch race, get some work done, try to decide which is my favorite part of France.

the approx finish is at 1100a ET each day. good live coverage on NBC Gold.

Mapo Tofu

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/spicy-sichuan-tofu-em-mapo-doufu-em-242878

Really good recipe and seems to be pretty close to restaurants. If you don't like hot foods skip the asian chili powder. The hot bean sauce isn't very hot, at least to me. The sichuan peppers don't make it hot spicy but they do provide a kick.
