Bad news: the amazing hotdog costume I bought doesn't fit me

Good news: Mrs SGBear has decided to wear it during a Zoom meeting, thereby becoming a hero to her team. Hotdog Mrs SGB is now enshrined as an emoji to be used during Slack communications to mean something good.

Even better news: I bought a husky-sized costume because a family that hot dogs together, stays together.

I put out vole repellent in the yard and flowerbeds yesterday. Voles look like hamsters but are incredibly destructive. Since my cat died they have been an increasing problem with their digging tunnels and emerging to eat grass and other plants.

One squirrel won't be interfering with any bird feeders. Yesterday part of my run was around Roosevelt Island. I went around a bend in the trail and almost stepped on a hawk that had just grabbed a squirrel. I'm not sure if the hawk, the squirrel, or I was the most startled. The hawk flew forward about fifty feet and I watched as it proceeded to shake that squirrel, flap its wings, and jump up and down until the squirrel wasn't moving. I ran by again about ten minutes later and the hawk was having breakfast.

Anthony Davis suffers injury scare while leading Lakers to crucial win in Game 4

https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2020/9/24/21455477/lakers-vs-nuggets-final-score-recap-nba-playoffs-game-4-lebron-james-jamal-murray

It never looked secure, but the Los Angeles Lakers did it. After dropping Game 3 to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, the Lakers came back and won Game 4, 114-108, giving them a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals.

Any discussion about Game 4 needs to start with Anthony Davis, for both good and bad reasons. Davis was unconscious from the field on Thursday, scoring 34 points on 10-15 shooting from the field. His first seven field goal attempts went in.

Unfortunately, Davis’ night came to a standstill midway through the fourth quarter, when he fell to the floor and grabbed his ankle in pain. He was able to get up and finish the game, but now there is a big question mark about his health moving forward.

If Davis isn’t good to go — or limited in any way — for Game 5, the Lakers will need more from LeBron James than they got from him in Game 4, at least in the scoring column.

Oakland A’s Game #56: Quiet 5-1 loss to Dodgers

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2020/9/24/21455470/oakland-as-game-56-los-angeles-dodgers-score-result

The Oakland A’s scored one run on Thursday, and recorded just three hits. That’s about all you need to know, in a game between two heavyweight clubs that already clinched their respective division crowns days ago.

The A’s dropped a 5-1 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers, completing a two-of-three series win for L.A. With the loss, Oakland moved back down a spot in the AL playoff seeding, to the No. 3 seed.

The green and gold started the game with Mike Fiers on the mound, and the right-hander worked five innings with just two runs crossing the plate. L.A. scored right away in the 1st inning, and then Corey Seager hit a solo homer in the 3rd.

Walker Buehler was solid in the 4 innings he worked, but the Dodgers are going to need more than 65 pitches from him some time soon, particularly given that Kershaw was not all that good in his 4 innings tonight. As good as the Dodgers are, I still don't trust their pitching staff as much as you should for a team with the expectations they have.

It looks like their competition may not be the Padres after all. After losing Clevinger a couple of nights ago Lamet asked for the trainer and it looks like his elbow. That's their No 1 and No 2 pitchers down for the count.

Giants wet the bed

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2020/9/24/21454922/san-francisco-giants-rockies-final-score

Here’s a probably incomplete list of things that San Francisco Giants could have done better to avoid suffering a 5-4, 11-inning loss to the Colorado Rockies. It’s a list of times where they came up short when they should not have come up short.

Expand full comment

They should have already clinched a post-season berth. I keep recalling a particularly bad stretch for most of a week earlier in the season where utter mis-management led to losing multiple games after they had blown what should have been unblowably large leads.

With a 2 run lead, Kapler puts in a pitcher who CAN NOT throw strikes, and then refuses to remove him when he clearly has no control, and he ultimately gives the game away on a walk off home run into the cove. 2nd blown game of the day.

Agreed. As a Giants fan, they admittedly caught a huge break not having to win in Yankee Stadium or Fenway during their 5 year run.

Dodgers bounce back to win series against Oakland

https://www.truebluela.com/2020/9/24/21455529/los-angeles-dodgers-mlb-news-rumors-mookie-betts-recap-oakland-athletics

After dropping the game late last night, the Dodgers responded nicely on Thursday, picking up their 40th win of the season as they defeated the Athletics 5-1.

The biggest piece of news coming out of the game is the fact Walker Buehler made it through the start without any problems with his blister. After missing a couple of weeks with blister issues, Buehler made the start and looked good. He was on a pitch count, so he lasted only four innings.

He allowed only one hit and didn’t allow a single run in his outing. Buehler cruised through the first three innings, but Oakland made him work in the fourth as he threw 25 pitches. He made a total of 65 pitches. The most important takeaway was the fact that he threw 19 curveballs, per the box score. It looks like the blister didn’t bother him this start, so hopefully he’ll be good to go throughout the postseason.

The bullpen was solid in relief of Buehler, as five different arms combined to allow only one run on two hits.
