Hey, thanks for the stats. I guess what I never really understood during the 21 season was why we seemed to give up on the run sometimes when it was working pretty well.

Very eye opening stuff. That chart that shows where Cal ranks on drives that have third downs is a who's who of bad and boring teams. Colorado, Northwestern and Vanderbilt were not in a neighborhood where you wanted to reside last season. Cal gets to a lot of third downs due to boring, predictable and conservative play calling by a head coach who thinks he is still at Wisconsin. Maybe it's the real reason attendance has been falling. I went to bed at halftime of the USC game. Just didn't care to watch the end for the first time in 35 years.

Chase is a 5-7-UDFA developmental QB with pro-style experience and athleticism. He has short to mid range arm with long throws needing a lot of air or pocket space to get to. His touch-timing-anticipation throws past the 10 yard mark leave much to be desired but he has a lot of computing power to go through reads. He's a game-manager in the vein of Trevor Simean.

I shudder to think how bad Cal's offense might have been been, not just last season but in all seasons where Chase played, if Garbers did not have the escapability to create first downs in the type of offense Wilcox wants to run. Imagine a slow footed plodder facing that many third and longs. We just might see that next season. Jake Plummer had a net minus three yards of rushing in the games he played in last year.
