On a gameday when Cal plays at home, there’s so much tradition you’ve come to expect. Maybe it’s tailgating on campus; maybe it’s going to Top Dog. As someone who doesn’t live in the Bay Area anymore, I miss the beautiful afternoons of a game day (at least in the early season). With aways games, however, you lose some of that tradition or the weekly habits that make us all college football junkies. In its place, the game might be on the television while you have friends over, and there just isn’t the same fanfare.
As an experiment (something to keep us occupied as we watch Cal take on Washington State), I’ve come up with a Cal gameday bingo card. Shoutout to @paulchiba for the idea:
So without further ado, here’s the template Bingo card for today’s game.
To make things a little bit easier for you all, I used osric.com to create the card with the following comma-separated text: Ott 15+ carries, Cal Offense 3&Out, OL holding penalty, Cal rushes on 1st down of drive, Sturdivant diving catch, Cal secondary interception, 100-yard receiving game for Cal, 2 point play (safety or 2-pt attempt), Missed FG, Reference to 2014 or 2017 games, Ott 50+-yd touchdown run, Dropped Pass for 4th Down Conversion, Hurdle, Terry First TD, Defensive TD, Blocked Punt, Kickoff Return TD, Commentators reference Aaron Judge, A field interruption (e.g., protestor or animal etc.), Flea-flicker, Piesman Trophy contender play, Double-digit lead blown, Popcorn Guy, A SportsCenter Top 10 Play. NOTE: The “free” tile is not a part of the text. There’s a separate space for it on the website.
If you use this Bingo card generator, it’ll pre-generate a randomized card for you at the bottom of the screen with all of the tiles that I used in my template.
Obviously, this wouldn’t be complete without a small prize. The first person to email writeforcalifornia@gmail.com with a bingo card that has 5-in-a-row completed will get Write For Cal stickers.
Good luck, have fun, and don’t blame me for any mayhem that may or may not happen.
Go Bears!
Officially that's a pass breakup and not a dropped pass by Mavin Anderson on the 4th down-play with Kai Millner. By my count, that's 8 tiles so it's definitely possible to have reached BINGO (BEARS?). If you got 5-in-a-row, remember to email writeforcalifornia@gmail.com.
For those of you playing along, that's 5 on the bingo card. Theoretically, some randomized card already has bingo!
