Cal linebacker Femi Oladejo, the second leading tackler for the Golden Bears in 2021, has elected to transfer to the UCLA Bruins.
Oladejo compiled 91 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack, one interception, and a forced fumble in his sophomore campaign, building upon a promising freshman year in 2021.
This is an enormous loss for the Bears—they do not have a player on the roster who can immediately replace Oladejo’s production on the interior. Mo Iosefa and Nate Rutchena both spent time in the middle of Cal’s 3-4 this season as they tried to move Oladejo outside, but eventually Oladejo returned to the middle as neither option worked that well.
Expect both Iosefa, Rutchena and Blake Antzoulatos to battle for the second inside spot alongside Jackson Sirmon, who is expected to return for his last year of eligibility. It’s likely you’ll see Cal dip into the transfer portal for immediate help to offset the loss.
I’m sure Chip Kelly was tampering to have the decision made in 4 hours. Whatever, its college football now.
Meanwhile Wilcox thinks its acceptable to not even have a Twitter account let alone use social media for recruiting. Amazing how incompetent our entire athletic department is.
Maybe the player-to-be-named later will be Justyn Martin.
