It's all about NIL and $. I'd be very surprised to see Ott in a Cal uniform next year as well. Cal has to either join the party or go to a lesser conference or an Ivy league type model.
If we want to be relevant anymore we need a) to retain talent and accrue new talent via the portal and b) get someone or sponsors to fund the NIL program at Cal. Otherwise there is no reason to come to Cal except the degree.
We don’t even have an OL coach right now. You think some kids are going to come to Cal when they don’t know who their position coach will be or what kind of offense we are running.
This program is a rudderless mess right now with Wilcox.
Moving him to outside and then back to inside displayed the coaches incompetence regardless of "current" need for "the team". Oh well, now he gone.
Poor coaching, simple as that. You have playas that want to go league don't play them where the League won't play them. Femi is a talent....generation type talent.
I love the transfer portal. Athletes should have the same flexibility as coaches. It's the college football version of free agency. Now...are we going to bemoan change or adapt and use it to our advantage?
That’s a false comparison; coaches have contract anchors that have at least a hurdle to bind them compared to this free for all. I liked the old days where U can transfer all you want, but you’re sitting for a season. Or limit the number of transfers a team can take, or how many times one player can transfer, or…..
Not with buyout clauses that make it hard to move, no. And the very same “one year contract” is available at the next school they play for, as with Oladejo…..
The buyout clauses provide security for the coach, not the school. Ask Texas A&M about the buyout clause and Jimbo. You think they wouldn't want to rethink that?
The athlete is on a one year scholarship that can arbitrarily removed for any reason. The transfer portal give athletes the power to shop their talent to any school that wants them. Why should we be against freedom of movement? And yes, every school they attend, one year scholarship. That's why JT Shroud has been at a bunch of schools. If there's a market for his skills, then more power to him.
Femi is different, way different. Please review his recruitment and his path to Cal. Then review his coaches' choices at Cal, which may or may not have caused Femi's choice to leave Cal. I'm open to discussion.
I’m sure Chip Kelly was tampering to have the decision made in 4 hours. Whatever, its college football now.
Meanwhile Wilcox thinks its acceptable to not even have a Twitter account let alone use social media for recruiting. Amazing how incompetent our entire athletic department is.
Westwood is a great location the campus is flawless. UCLA should get top recruits from high school and transfer portal
A score for the 'Baby Bears' and their powder blue uniforms....

If Wilcox was smart, he'd snap up every Alabama OL in the portal.

Pretty sure it is a violation for the other school to be in contact with a player before they enter the transfer portal, but is there any enforcement?
Fire wilcox
just out of curiosity, how the fuck has an OC not been hired (yes I heard about the sanfu already), but Wilcox........WTF???''
Oh, and Avi put your TWEETS in this forum as well (if you haven't already).
Unacceptable. Full stop.

Oh well. Perhaps more to come.
And he wasn't starting for about 3 game stretch. Puzzling
If he waited a year it might not have been a transfer within the conference. Sad face.

And year to year scholarships aren't contracts?

Just look at Cal and Wilcox buyout clause for an example.
OK, this I agree with. Absolutely.
He better start learning fast bc times have changed.
With a 4-8 team, other than the offensive skill players, I'm not really THAT moved by transfers.

That’s true. We can have the worst O-line in FBS with or without Ben Coleman…
Apparently Chris Street is in the portal, too. Guess there's room to add a couple of RBs this year.

Not arguing that it's good or bad, but remember when transferring within your conference was considered sedition?
