Five-star QB Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele flips from Cal to Oregon
The five star quarterback ended up with the Ducks over the Bears.
In an early Signing Day decision, after being committed from Cal, Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele flipped to the Oregon Ducks. It’s another bitter last minute blow for Justin Wilcox, who will now have to turn their attention to keeping Fernando Mendoza at all costs.
Sagapolutele made his final visit to Berkeley for the Big Game ($), and had a great time meeting Cal luminaries like Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch and Desean Jackson. Unfortunately it was hard to meet the allure of the history of Hawaii QBs with the Oregon Ducks.
The most prolific passer in Hawaii high school football history, Sagapolutele passed all sorts of greats like Marcus Mariota, Tua Tagovailoa and Dillon Gabriel.
Sagapolutele finished his career as the state's all-time passer with 10,653 yards, surpassing Oregon's Dillon Gabriel earlier this season. He also threw 114 touchdown passes, second in state history behind the Keoki Alani of Konawaena (Kealakekua), who finished with 127.
Here’s the scouting report from On3:
“Put together some of the best senior film of any 2025 quarterback, making a variety of high-difficulty throws. Has a quick, natural release and one of the three strongest arms in the cycle. Gets the ball out quickly with considerable velocity. Shows the ability to attack all areas of the field as a passer”.
…
“Has a beautiful deep ball, throwing with ideal trajectory and location. Stands out when throwing in to small windows over the middle of the field. An effortless touch passer when working in the red zone. Showed strong pocket feel as a senior, stepping up in the pocket and doing a good job of evading pressure.”
Sounds like he surprised both us AND oregon with this choice.
If we couldn’t get him, there’s now no need to keep any staff on the offensive side of the ball to keep his commitment. There should be zero hesitancy to clean house.
