I think that beating Stanford is the big one for the alumni of Cal. But for Cal fans like myself who did not attend the university, it's often not the biggest game on the schedule. I would much rather see a big win against Oregon next week. I HATE Oregon and all that Phil Knight money, the kind of money that enabled the program to install Ferrari leather seats in the team meeting room. Really hating their top rated recruiting classes, too. Those kids are not going there because they love the small town feel of Eugene.
There are alumni who hate SC more than furd and would take an SC win over a Big Game win (especially in a year when SC is really good and furd isn’t). Not me. To me getting/keeping The Axe is the most important thing. I guess there would be an exception for conference championship or playoff implications but generally the Big Game is the biggest game of the year for me.
I don’t really even see SC as a rival. They don’t think of us as a rival, they don’t circle Cal on their calendars. Though we’re technically “in the same league” as them they’re in another level. I’m with you on Oregon and their sugar daddy and all their bling and stupid uniforms. I hate them more than SC but it’s nothing close to how much I hate furd.

Beating Stanford is the premiere achievement of each season (or not if we lose).
