Welcome to 2022, Cal Fam!
We know 2021 was a bit of a rough year for us on the field. But we have an Axe, and a ton of memories to cherish after a long year-and-a-half away from each other.
We talked about how you helped us get to 2000+ followers on Christmas (and thank you to our 15 new subscribers since then!), but we have a few last quick 2022 social tasks for you to help us grow back our community.
We’re trying to rebuild our social channels to improve our reach, and return our numbers back to where we were with the original California Golden Blogs.
It’s a quick two-step process.
Like us on those channels
Tell your diehard Cal friends on those channels so they can do the same
Unfortunately, we lost our old Facebook page during the transition from Vox, which had upwards of 30,000 fans.
Our current Write For California page has not hit 300.
Facebook is a tough platform to grow on its own these days. Since a ton of our old social engagement and organic growth came from Facebook in the later years, we could use some help from you to help accelerate our growth.
We are also trying to grow our Instagram following as well as we venture into more visual content. If you have an Instagram, please give us a follow!
I expect almost everyone here follows us on Twitter (because we kept that account!), but in case you don’t…
We’re also experimenting with LinkedIn! Yeah, weird. We haven’t really figured out this channel yet, but more followers here and we can really try and expand our reach to the professional UC Berkeley community as well.
No, we are not doing TikTok yet. Maybe one day.
Finally, here is a list of some of our current contributors on Twitter. We do encourage you to follow them if you get a chance.
And sure, you can follow me too, I tweet Cal things sometimes.
Please try and follow us as soon as you can! The sooner we hit critical mass on all our socials, the less likely it is we send these email reminders.
Happy 2022 Cal Family!
Thanks for the site and Happy New Year. Hope you guys can get to the levels you had over on CGB.
I followed you on one of your social media accounts based on your post (already had subscribed to others). Some suggestions:
- one of the other three main cal sites stopped following Cal WBB. They not only deserve to get more coverage, but there is now a little void that this site can fill
- I know you recently changed the name of this site, but it doesn't have a particularly good outside facing name. The people who run this site "write for california" but as part of your audience the name doesn't inspire me as a fan
- I suggest you at least setup a Tiktok site. Tiktok exploded in the last year, and at least it might lead to some referrals to your main social media accounts
- add some interviews with past athletic alumni. they should be easily reached via their social media accounts, and the interviews could be done by zoom and transcribed, or completely via email or social media. There are MANY former Cal players who would love to participate in a short interview ... a couple on the hoops side are: Randle, Jorge, Boykin, Sam Singer, etc etc etc
