Me too, but until Substack can match SBNation’s commenting features (pictures, gif’s, single key to go to next unread comment, etc.), I don’t see it happening.
I followed you on one of your social media accounts based on your post (already had subscribed to others). Some suggestions:
- one of the other three main cal sites stopped following Cal WBB. They not only deserve to get more coverage, but there is now a little void that this site can fill
- I know you recently changed the name of this site, but it doesn't have a particularly good outside facing name. The people who run this site "write for california" but as part of your audience the name doesn't inspire me as a fan
- I suggest you at least setup a Tiktok site. Tiktok exploded in the last year, and at least it might lead to some referrals to your main social media accounts
- add some interviews with past athletic alumni. they should be easily reached via their social media accounts, and the interviews could be done by zoom and transcribed, or completely via email or social media. There are MANY former Cal players who would love to participate in a short interview ... a couple on the hoops side are: Randle, Jorge, Boykin, Sam Singer, etc etc etc
Due to the current state of Cal basketball, it's been hard finding writers to talk hoops. We'll probably be doing our regular call-out for more writers.
Tik-Tok has been considered, but we've still trying too get a handle on our social strategy in 2022.
Good call on the athletic alumni interviews! We used to do those all the time, we'll make a note to do more of that.
Transcription takes a lot of time. Transcribing press conferences usually takes an hour-two of work each interview. While we agree it'd be beneficial to our entire audience, we lack the resourcing and the time to do that at this time.
Same thing in the Sugar...the true FR came in for Corral, and kept them in it against one of the best D’s in the country, tho the 2nd pick was a dagger...
The point is it IS possible to have a competent O with a backup QB.
Not with this staff, but you cannot just blame Wilcox and Musgrave for this woeful inadequacy. Remember the 1993 season when Cal was 5-0 and hosting Washington to decide if Cal was for real at top of the conference pecking order? Cal goes ahead in that game, but QB Dave Barr goes down on the turf with a shoulder injury. In comes backup Kelly McGonigal and out goes what might have been the best Cal team ever. Barr was 9-0 in games he started and finished that year. The backups were 0-4. And of course it happened again in 2010 when Elite 11 recruit Brock Mansion was called upon to replace an injured Kevin Riley. Mansion's inability to lead the team resulted in an end to Tedford's 7-year bowl streak.
I think Purdue transfer Jack Plummer easily wins the quarterback competition next season, which could very well result in Millner pulling a sayonara in the transfer portal. Hope that doesn't happen, but it seems to follow a pattern that is developing in college football. Utah played with a walk-on QB yesterday because the number 2 went into the portal immediately after losing his job in game 3 to Cam Rising.
Ah, that '93 team was solid - my SO year of college. That team housed Iowa in the inaugural Alamo Bowl, no? McGonigal was a nut - drank with him at Henry's after college a few times....
I too think Plummer wins the job in the fall, and expect Millner to immediately transfer...he's probably putting feelers out to prospective schools already, TBH...
I was there, and that comeback was special after Cal went down 30 zip. That Cal team had some magic. Put some dudes in the NFL, too, like Todd Steussie, Jerod Cherry and Regan Upshaw. No doubt in my mind Cal would have gone to a Rose Bowl at least once had Bruce Snyder stuck around to coach those players and recruits he was planning to bring in.
Thanks for the site and Happy New Year. Hope you guys can get to the levels you had over on CGB.

That is something we're aware of and are thinking of regarding the future of our site and brand.

We're pretty happy with the name.
Don't worry you got me around :), hopefully you guys got the email for that.
Hi GoBears49,

Feliz Ano Nuevo!
GO BEARS! Beat 2022!!
Hmmm...Remigio to Fresno State
Just saw that. Want to root for him and Tedford but it also makes me kinda upset (even though it makes sense for a number of reasons).
A true freshman that's never thrown a collegiate pass just came in and led Utah on a game tying TD drive v Ohio State in the f-ing Rose Bowl.....
My hope for 2022 is that Justin Wilcox fixes whatever he is doing wrong with the QB2 position in Berkeley...
A walk on, too.

Pac-12 officials were used for the 2nd playoff game. What could go wrong with that? Hahaha!
