This is fiction. Therefore you can make things fit your own fantasy. I read fiction where the good guys always win (Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler), not because it is realistic, but as an enjoyable diversion.
Thank you for this series. It fit my template for enjoyable diversion perfectly!
That's probably more likely, but would be less optimal for Cal; if we lost to Oregon, then that would make it tougher for us to win the North. It's better for us to pull off the upset against Oregon (duh), but then be the victims of an upset somewhere else.
It's also a more interesting writing exercise (I'd say reading exercise, but there are no goddamn readers for this series) for upsets to happen. These posts would be even less interesting if all the games were won and lost as dictated on paper.

GO BEARS!
Beat them all!
The only weird part of the fiction is losing to WSU, with a depleted roster and new coaching staff, instead of like Oregon.

As one of the most beloved members of Cal fandom, what would be your best-case scenario? 15–0 and national champions?
Haha, of course!
12-2 is great. I'd settle for that. Similarly I'd settle for 8 wins including a bowl victory.
