2025 SG Isiah Harwell, top ten national prospect, will visit Cal men's basketball
The California Golden Bears are in Harwell's top nine and will be a serious contender.
These are the stories you think about and get excited for every summer. Cal men’s basketball is in the running for a top ten national recruit for the 2025 class.
Isiah Harwell is considering the California Golden Bears, and he’ll be visiting this summer, according to Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports (article is behind paywall).
Alabama, Baylor, Cal, Gonzaga, Houston, Idaho State, Texas, UCLA and North Carolina are the final nine.
Obviously, the competition is stiff Gonzaga and North Carolina are the rumored favorites, according to Rob Cassiday at Rivals. Harwell has visited Spokane on an official and the Tar Heels are a dream destination.
However, there is a pre-existing relationship. Cal assistant Amorrow Morgan played with Harwell’s dad at Idaho State, the two remain fairly close, and Morgan started recruiting him from nearly the moment he arrived at Cal. More from Jamie Shaw at On3 from almost a year ago.
Cal: “So Coach Amorrow Morgan grew up with my dad, so he is a long-time best friend of my dad’s. So we were able to have a great conversation, and he wanted me to have a chance to go there. They like how I can play the one through three but also be versatile on defense.”
Harwell is one of the best pure high school shooters in the nation, with some decent athleticism to boot. Hopefully the Jaylon Tyson boost is a good sell.
Getting into these discussions early is a very good sign, and getting that visit with a fully restocked Bears team is likely to only lead to good vibes. Good on Mark Madsen for getting the momentum going in the right direction, and hopefully as the NIL warchest grows, it’ll be enough to start landing some top prospects in the nation year over year.
I’m just happy to be in the conversation. Madsen really does seem to be elevating our program. Now we just need to nail down those last transfer spots!
Landing him will put our class certainly in the top 5 or 6 in the country. It will also send one of our projected starters into the portal. Because someone is going to sit is this guy will command big minutes.
