Look at Avi with this Dragnet-style post. "Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts". I'm sure Avi is wringing his hands along with the rest of us. Having to reload AFTER the spring game is a no-op, and signs of a deeply troubled program. If the next round of realignment happens in the next 2 years, Cal and Furd are in danger of getting the OSU/WSU treatment, and demoted to the Mountain West - or worse, left without a conference. As others have written, CAL will then become a JuCo developing talent for the major schools to poach. That's not a program to root for or invest in, monetarily or emotionally. Lyons and RR need to take drastic action NOW to start the rebuild - let the firings begin...

I don't wanna be rooting for that team. Let them get rid of the football program and let's keep the memories of being in the power conference and nothing worse.

It’s hard enough supporting a program which knows only how to abuse itself and its supporters. It’s even harder when it’s now clear you can no longer really get attached to any player. There are no heros left.

I’ve never seen a coach lose his locker room during spring practice.

I see a lot of 3-and-outs in our future.

Who will be the punter....or has he also Portal'd (new word spelling?)

KetamineCal's avatar

Well this is quite the dumpster fire. I guess we could technically be pulling in a whole new team Deion-style...but color me extremely skeptical.

We can't have nice things. Glad our A.D. is nowhere to be found in all of this, like everything's just completely normal. We just get constantly punished for putting our hopes into Cal Athletics.

Ron Rivera, save us!

Why haven’t the offensive linemen started entering the portal yet??

I think they like their OL coach and maybe they don't have better options

[this was a response to the link below to the X posting with comments from Riviera, but substack lost the plot]:

What he fails to mention is that the car's headed straight for a cliff, and the steering wheel just broke off in his hand.

How long before the Hawai'i high school QB Sagapolutele transfers? The offense around him has departed since committing to Cal--after initially committing to Oregon. If he leaves, he could rack up 3 moves through the Transfer Portal without ever playing a college game.

We might as well just prepare ourselves to expect it.

He’s seeing the same train wreck we’re looking at

PawlOski's avatar

Probably next year. Coming into this offseason, I expected Brown would be QB1 next year. But this offseason has been such a royal disaster that they really have to start JKS at this point—both to extract what value they can—while they can—from the investment in his recruiting and to attempt to make sure him content above all else.

The program is in shambles. Prediction: awful season, Wilcox gone.

Bring Nate Rutchena back ;-)

Another athlete who got their shot from Cal but could care less in face of the money. Can’t blame the guy: who will never earn as much in the NFL, if he even makes it.

AndDriveDriveDrive's avatar

At this point it just feels like Wilcox took a leap of faith with Harsin and that he better stick the landing or the program will end up with a broken neck.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

It’s JW’s last chance. Everyone knows it, including Wilcox.

Justbear's avatar

Yeah at this point, let them do whatever they want. I'm sure Wilcox didn't imagine losing the entire offense but let Harsin take full control, let Wilcox live or die with it. Let's take this high risk high reward approach and see what happens. Of course, if this fails, Wilcox must be gone.

Toohandy's avatar

Hiring Harsin was a BIG mistake. He just can't adjust to being an assistant coach. And, he alienates many of his players and poition coaches.

PawlOski's avatar

We knew it was a big swing, but I guessed we wouldn’t know if it could worked or not at least until the fall.

AndDriveDriveDrive's avatar

I think we probably won’t fully be able to say it worked or it didn’t until we see who we end up with. Rugbear made some good arguments to this effect. These aren’t good signs though.

Noel Simmons's avatar

Is there anyone still on the team? Anyone? 🐻😢

sacman701's avatar

I think most of the defense is still there, and most of the offensive line. At this rate the OL may be blocking for walk-ons.
