Cal quarterback legend Jared Goff had led the Detroit Lions to a division title for the first time in forever. Now he is taking on his former team that traded him and the coach that left him in the Los Angeles Rams. Can he lead the Lions to their first playoff win since the 1990s?
So happy for Goff and the Lions. A local Marin boy, Cal man, and now back from the pile of ashes. I'm certain he will always be proud of his Cal connection and in retirement may be around the Bay Area again, since if you have as much money as him, where would you rather live?
I'm a Rams fan, but happy for Goff and the city of Detroit. I want to believe they can beat the Niners if it comes to that, but not sure I see it. Prove me wrong Goff.
It’s interesting that for a guy who has been characterized as soft and relatively slight, Goff has barely missed a game, if ever, over his college and already lengthy pro careers. Dude is an iron man.
I think its the optics of when he gets hit, it feels like there's a good chance the ball is coming out. Whether true or not.. but I did a quick search to compare Goff vs Stafford, fumbles lost over their career:
- Stafford lost 38 fumbles in 15 years.
- Goff lost 33 fumbles in 8 years.
Obv stats with grain of salt.. But, Stafford arguably had worse offensive lines over that time too and was really getting creamed in Detroit for a while, but lost at roughly half the rate over his career bigger picture.
Remember when Goff was a freshman at Cal and everyone said he sucked? He was awkward , skinny and afraid? Well, he kept after it and worked hard and didn't give up or quit. Now look where he is.
Sean McVay has a brilliant offensive mind, but he's immature when it comes to dealing with people, and he has no character. He'll sacrifice someone else to save his own skin. Stafford is a good QB, but Goff has intangibles that Stafford does not have. So happy that Goff beat that little turd McVay.
And, what many of the pundits and commentators don’t acknowledge is that the resurgences were in large part due to Goff. For example the other night Collinsworth went on and on about how Campbell resurrected Goff’s career. I don’t see it that way. Rather, Goff is giving Campbell glory, just like he did Dykes and McVay. It so happens that Jared is a very modest dude.
I think it's because Goff has very noticeable brain farts, which makes the casual viewer who doesn't watch many of his games just assume he's not that great. And to be fair, he's not a Mahomes. But he's still a top 3rd QB in the NFL that can make any pass in the game, and people underrate that.
And Collinsworth is essentially the casual viewer's mouthpiece for the NFL.

He was amazing from day one and it was so obvious. Perhaps you are talking about Buh, LBs and DBs? Because everyone talked about how D sucked.

Always hard to predict the future of sports but he seems like a more loyal guy than most.
I started watching in 3rd quarter and Goff offense did nothing but the final drive they took care of business. Go Lions.
He was fantastic in the first half, especially the first quarter.
