Key risk is whether he'll stay. A HS freshman who transferred to a national powerhouse, who then didn't start, and then transfers back to the place where he's from so that he can get off the bench. As a recruit, he commits to Oregon, decommits, commits to Cal, decommits, and then recommits.
You right and that's fair. I don't know what happened behind the scenes. I am just an outside observer on a situation - whether a player is fast or slow, tall or short, how many yards they gained, and other observations. He's an exceptional talent and I'm glad he's found a path that's right for him. I am sorry for any offense caused and would welcome a correction.
The people who come here absolutely love this football program. And that means they're emotionally invested. It makes people nervous. We cheer when they do well, we grouse when they do poorly, and we cry when they lose. But make no mistake, we love and support your loved one and want the best for him.
Before I saw your name I was going to ask we be more civil here, as this isn't a site like most where it is common to use harsh language. But since you seem to be family, you have a right to defend your own and expect fair treatment. I'll say that the authors of this site and people who post on this site are truly thoughtful sports fans. It is not unusual for fans to question the intentions or motivations of recruits, and I think we do it here with more kindness and appreciation for the challenges of being 18 than many places. Coming to Cal was the best decision I ever made, and that goes for many here. We have a motto at our University: Fiat Lux. It means to "Let there be Light". We love it because it means so much, including at this blog. Everyone deserves a fair shake, and our beloved scholar athletes are held in the highest regard so long as they represent our University within the bounds of normal standards. We are delighted to have Jaydn as a Bear and hope he joins the ranks of the Marshawn Lynch's and Justin Foresett's and Jahvid Best's and Shane Vereen's and goes down as one of the greats.
Family or not that comment was bullshit conjecture and totally out of line. Imagine being that tone deaf. On a post where a 4 star RB commits to the program, you think that's the appropriate comment to write.
Not sure we agree as I think it is normal and appropriate to speculate about whether someone will stay. All of us who have followed college sports since the 80's have seen endless cases of young folks who come and go. It's no one's fault, as each person has to make their own choices. I don't think it is any obligation for people here to be only and purely adoring of any athlete.
I'm not defending the author, as they have already apologized, and yet I am making the case that posting about whether someone is likely to stay or not is absolutely normal and fair game on any sports blog in the nation.
I will invite you to again look at what the topic of this blog post is about and ask yourself if this is appropriate place for conjecture based on... what exactly? Thousands of high school kids transfer, thousands more de-commit and re-commit to school during the recruiting process.
I have to agree, the conjecture here is irrelevant, speculative and completely unnecessary in a moment that is a big win for the Cal program.
As a fan I'd like to say we are stoked to have Jaydn at Cal and will be just as excited to root for him after he graduates. He will be a stellar representative of our university.
Good to have guys really check out their options before deciding. I like that he said that Cal feels like home, bodes well for him having a good experience here (and hopefully sticking around).
Woah there - We're all fans but I don't think profanity and this level of venom is warranted. I don't think anything said was anything more than vanilla. Let's take the volume down a notch, right?
Welcome to Cal, Jaydn. It's a big decision, and I'm glad he took his time to check out other places before deciding, which makes his decision to recommit all the more meaningful for me. Hopefully this means he is ready for the long haul that is Cal. I look forward to seeing him in the coming years.
That "Ott to" do it for the the RB position. ( I can practically hear all your laughter.)

Fuck you. You don’t know what happened there. Get your fucking facts in order before you run your mouth.

Agreed, we are happy he joined the Cal family. He will do great here and if in 3 years he decides he's ready for the League, good for him.
Go Bears!!

This commit made my day. So glad Jaydn decided to ball out for Cal.
Maybe some of these guys are doing a double-take now that Wilcox has shown his commitment
You never know with these tapes, particularly when it comes to the competition, but he seems pretty fast.
The acceleration and start-stop ability doesn't lie on film. This is a really good recruit and our RB room just got a whole lot more athletic.
Seems to have a bit of an extra gear that kicks in 20 yards down the field
I myself am usually downshifting 20 yards downfield with a stall at 30 before the wheels completely come off at 40....
Kid's a stud and fills a huge need....will take all the recruiting wins over those awful alliterations (Bucky Badger/Tommy Trojan) we can get.
Tip of the cap to the coaching staff, and welcome to Jaydn.
Glad to see this. Everyone has to make the decision that’s right for them. In this case I think he’s defintely made the right decision for me!
Welcome to the fam! Now ball out and score some touchdowns! Go BEARS!
Sweet. Electric. Kool Aid. No wait, am getting off track. This is great news!
Now that's what I'm talking about
Go Bears!
There we go!
Wilcox said they were looking at a few 👌🏼
