Dear Drivedrivedrive; your “handle” tells me your are a very hard working person. So, I’d like to tell you that it will be impossible for you to find any coach in this country who works harder than Madsen. He is thrilled to be at Cal. As a boy he attended the Lawrence Hall of Science camp 2 years. The first year he went he was in the 3rd grade. The counselors announced that any camper who could memorize every other campers name would receive a microscope. He was so thrilled about this that he memorized all names the first day. I bet he already has so many Cal Bear fan’s names memorized! And he has already been flying to so many destinations trying to befriend and attract great players you are going to be very pleased every year.

When he was a Laker they held a few weeks of the Mark Madsen summer camp for kids. He memorized every kids name. I was able to travel down for the last Friday session of the final week. All the kids were sitting in the stands. He was in front thanking the kids & their folks saying goodbye. Then he nodded to a sound guy at the side who put on Shaq’s rap and then Mark said goodbye and started to do his spastic dance. All the kids just poured out of the stands onto the court. They were all trying to hug him at once. They were hugging his knees and his arms. It was so amazing. I just sat at the edge and cried. .

Give him a few years at Berkeleyand he will have worked so so hard for you, he will know everyone’s name and you will want to hug him.

Think of this: why did he play in the NBA 9 years? It wasn’t his points per game. It was he worked so so hard and he just loved everyone and they loved him back. Shaq loved him. Kobe loved him. LeBron loved him. You will too.

Good luck and congrats Jaylon. Looking forward to seeing what you can accomplish in the league!

Good for him. Seems like he'll at least be a rotation player, plus he's got upside if he can take his shot to the next level. Worst case he'll make a decent living hooping overseas. I'll be rooting for him no matter where he ends up, just like I do Jaylen Brown, despite not being a fan of the Celtics. I appreciate the excitement he brought to the program last year, and the model he's set for potential transfers to make it to the next level with Madsen even while the program is still rebuilding.

Good luck Jaylon.

Really gutted about this one… but I’m happy for him and excited for his next chapter. Who knows maybe he’ll opt out and decide to come back for his senior year and make a last run in the acc. Too early to say nothing’s possible. But what I can say is that he’ll be representing Cal from know on wherever he goes and I’m glad that he choose to be a Golden Bear. It was fun watching him play and he’ll be great no matter what. I believe in Coach Madsen and all the things he’s doing. Cal basketball is back babyyy!!!

Good luck to Tyson.

I knew this would be his decision and it pains me to say it's the right one. His play was enthralling and I'm glad I got to watch him do it in a Cal uniform. Nothing to do but wish him great success in the League.

Hoping Madsen can pull another player of his caliber and make that level of play the norm. But I'll remember Tyson as the guy who made Cal Basketball enjoyable to watch again.

Can't blame Jaylon given all he's been through. He's ready and let's wish him all the best at the next level. Go Bears.

Though year before Madsen came, the team only won 3 games….. last season it was a miraculous turn around with so many wins and so many games lost by only a basket. It was so fun to see the Haas pavilion sold out a few times. And so exciting to hear the enthusiastic fans cheer so wholeheartedly so often.

With already over 1,000 players declaring for the portal…. There are so many to court.

Madsen can do no it again. Great times are coming.

But contributing some NIL money would definitely help, right? 😉

There could be many many more going into the portal all over the country as the days pass. Players see the $ some are being promised and think they should try too. I wish we could put a cap on what players can be paid. But apparently there

Isn’t any cap or any ceiling. . So it will be uneven on every team causing even more shattering amongst players…. And even more taxing for coaches to need to spend so much time begging for money. How long can this system last ?

I am convinced that the coaches are the only folks that have the "gravitas" to call for sensible reform. What's happening is far astray from what people like Ed O'Bannon were complaining about. Calling it NIL is deceiving: it's paying players a salary not just about them being able to capitalize on their "NIL". I am wondering if there is some way player pay could be coupled into a coaches salary contract. At least then, there's a clear pot of money to be distributed and the coaches don't have to go around begging for money. Let's face it, the coaches are making stupid money too (though I totally can see the sacrifice that guys like Mark are making to do the job....with a family, new baby, wife to keep happy, etc.....though there are also a couple hundred faculty on campus sacrificing for a lot less).
