Kenny Dillingham brings Beau Baldwin and Charlie Ragle to Arizona State
Justin Wilcox will be facing some old friends next year.
As Cal waits to fill in their offensive coordinator position (check out our first big board), another coaching staff has been formed in the Pac-12 with some former Golden Bears.
Arizona State found their new coach immediately after the conclusion of the season, making the offer quickly to Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham.
Dillingham anchored Bo Nix and the Ducks offense to the near top of the Pac-12 for most of 2022 with some impressive playcalling, before Tosh Lupoi’s defense fell apart against Washington and Oregon State. Dillingham was previously an offensive coordinator at Memphis, Auburn, and Florida State.
Dillingham brings two familiar faces back with him. Beau Baldwin resigned from his position at Cal Poly to become the new offensive coordinator at Arizona State.
It sounds as if Baldwin will hande playcalling, but he will have an offensive mind at coach in Dillingham to plot with. Baldwin was 4-21 with the Mustangs since he accepted the Cal Poly job in 2019 after resigning the Cal offensive coordinator position. The two seem like a natural fit offensively so you should expect a much improved Sun Devil offense.
Dillingham also brought Charlie Ragle back to his native state to be the special teams coordinator. Ragle was a recruiting powerhouse at Cal in bringing in top Arizona talent, including BRETT JOHNSON.
Cal fans, thoughts on the Dillingham hire and his decision to bring in Baldwin and Ragle?
As long as Baldwin keeps his playbook closed we should be fine.
Good hires. The bottom of the Pac has leveled up coaching-wise (including us). Next year will be interesting.
