Hmmmm.....I did not know that Clay Helton was drunk. But even a drunk might be able to see that spotting 41 points to Stanford in the conference championship game is hard to swallow with a defense full of 4 and 5-star talent. But as Bum Phillips once famously said, "There's two kinds of coaches, them's that's fired and them's that is about to be fired." A bit ironic that Helton fired Wilcox but retained Peter Sirmon on his staff. (BTW, that Phillips dictum does not apply to Cal. Wilcox won't be fired anytime soon.)
Sling a good investment if you want to watch Cal this year. They are going to be on that network a ton this season. Just like last year. That's what you get when you have a decent defensive coordinator who was Peter Principled into a mediocre head coach and then head scratchingly (at least I thought so) given a four-year contract extension after putting up a 15-25 record in conference for five years of work.
The Wazzu game might get to a network because Wazzu, is well, good, but it's right back to the Pac 12 Network again for the Colorado game. Love me some Sling for $40 or so a month with prompt cancellation after the Big Game.
I'd disagree that Wilcox was a decent coordinator. His schemes are widely considered among the best in the business. Many coaches on Football Twitter say that they're regularly inspired by his play design.
He did get fired while a D coordinator at USC, but I will give you an adjective that is better than decent. How about fantastic? I just know he is not a fantastic head coach, and I stand by what I say when putting the mediocre tag on his performance. Unless you want to say that no one can consistently win at Cal within the salary range that Cal is willing to pay or within the university's rigid scholastic requirements. If both of those things are absolute truths, then none of us should be bitching about the product we are seeing on the field right now.
Washington, Oregon, and USC games are likely to be on a network. UCLA is already confirmed to be a Fox game, and ND on NBC of course. The Big Game probably depends on how good both teams are.
Or maybe not. This schedule shows that undefeated Oregon State and undefeated USC are playing on the Pac 12 Network in two weeks. It looks like the Pac 12 Network is getting at least one marquee match-up per week to build its brand around.
Pac-12 Networks is guaranteed at least 3 USC games a season and I guess this one just happened to be it. Frankly, I wish all UCLA and USC games were on Pac-12 Networks until they leave. Backstabbers.
I am using Sling because I have to. Can't fast forward through commercials, like you can on almost any other TV Network. Picture quality not up to ESPN or FOX standards. UUUUGHH
In my Sling viewing experience, if you either pause just before the commercials start or start your fast forwarding before the commercials start, you can fast forward through the commercials. Too late with the FF and the commercials start, then stuck watching commercials. I watch via Roku- maybe this makes a difference?
I'm streaming Pac-12 bay area and since you can't record (dvr) the broadcast using the Pac-12 now App you have to watch (and mute) all of the commercials. They repetitively have ads for 1. MGM Rewards (gee, George's old employer), 2. Vegas, 3. AirBnB, 4. Continental Tires. That's it at every commercial break. Need some new Ad sales people.
Wait, what are you guys talking about? I recorded both Cal games this season in case I missed them; ended up watching live, but pausing at commercials to go do other things and fast forward past them when I got back.

He was fired because his boss was a drunk.
Kinda sad we are not getting any national coverage (other than ND on NBC this week) We used to be on ESPN after dark and FS1 relatively frequently.
That's what happens when you're both mediocre and boring.

Watching games on The Pac 12 network kinda sucks!

The positive is we get Shane Vereen. I can't really tell if he's good or not, but at least he's not bad.
He's good
I did enjoy listening to Shane.

Where are the U See Berkeley commercials this year??
