Martin Tine, East Los Angeles College offensive tackle, commits to Cal
A very huge commitment at a big position of need.
The California Golden Bears have finally landed their first new offensive lineman of the 2023 cycle, and itβs from the junior college ranks. Martin Tine from East Los Angeles College announced his commitment to the Bears.
Tine had over a dozen FBS offers from this past season, including Akron, Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Fresno State, Georgia Southern, Hawaii, Marshall, New Mexico State, UTEP and UTSA.
Below is Martinβs offensive tape from his sophomore campaign (click through the Twitter link to view the video).
You can see that Tine has a lot of open field mobility and quick feet to protect the edge. Cal has allowed 56 sacks in the last two seasons, and it has significantly impeded their offense. Tine can hopefully give the Bears a new option at offensive tackle and compete with Brayden Rhome, T.J. Session, Ender Aguilar for playing time.
This is a major win for new Cal offensive line coach Mike Bloesch, who needs new bodies up front to compete for positions for the most disappointing unit in 2022. With Ben Coleman and Spencer Lovell also gone, there will definitely be some upheaval on that group going into next season.
Welcome to Cal Martin! Go Bears!
Tine could turn out to be a great addition. I watched his film. He's big, athletic and does a good job in pass pro. He's going to need to get more physical and aggressive at the point of attack in the run game however. Welcome to CAL Martin!!
Me likey!
Welcome Martin!
