Question: Looking at a lot of the other player videos, I notice many cases where I could have seen holding called. When I played offensive line, in high school, back in the early 70s, we were taught we were not "supposed" to extend our arms when blocking, yet I see almost every OL player does it. I know in the zone around the line of scrimmage, most anything goes, like a clip or crack-back block, but, again, some of these blocks, that are common amongst lineman, look more like holds than legal blocks.
Blue shirt = redshirt. Some people don't want to call it red so they say "blue shirt" but it means the same thing.
There is gray shirt, which a player delays enrolling. For example you graduate high school in May 2023 but you do not enroll in the fall 2023 (mostly for grade reasons), and arrive on campus in January or summer of 2024. That player gray shirted 2023. He will still have 5 years to play 4 starting in fall 2024.
Other than that, eligibility is always 5 years to play 4 years, except 2020 season does not count towards eligibility due to Covid shortened season, so anyone who was in college in Fall 2020 got to play 5 years.
And the medical redshirt is when you apply and are granted an extra year of eligibility when you miss most of season due to injury, but it's not automatic.
As for Martin Tine, his 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid. (no count)
He played in 2021 and 2022 so he should have 3 years to play 2 years.
Not a tackle, not a guard, not technically a center... but did you notice we got a great get in a long snapper? Those guys are hugely important when they are on the field. Besides, this guy is supposed to be a stud so he might end up with a few cool flashes pancaking some DL who doesn't take a snapper seriously...?!
Woo Hoo! Just what Cal needs, and he’s ready to hit the field. Off to a a good start under the new offensive regime. I love hearing the phrase “mobile offensive tackle.”
Tine could turn out to be a great addition. I watched his film. He's big, athletic and does a good job in pass pro. He's going to need to get more physical and aggressive at the point of attack in the run game however. Welcome to CAL Martin!!

Should have all his years of eligibility, right? 2 seasons of Juco should mean he has a bit more experience and weight.
Just looked up the rules and you're right. 5 years from HS graduation to compete 4 seasons. Rules are more about being able to play immediately.

Did you even read what I wrote? I had the longest explanation
Yes. on 9/1/23 so you better not forget.
I would love to see us get this guy, too.

NEVER MIND- He's at Oregon.
He's not at Oregon?
Yeah, he is. Bob sold me on this Bear Insider and much of their information is out of date. LOL
So he can't play spring ball because he's not on campus already, is that right? Bummer, if so....
Great add. More o linemen pretty please.

Cal becoming LSU.
We are LSU
This makes my heart happy!

Looks like we've got a chance with this guy. He'd be good.

Hey, BearInsider is not up the moment.
This guy signed with Utah, last December. It's on his Twitter.
Exactly who I was hoping to hear from. Appreciate the analysis as always.
Looking for a dual threat kinda passer?... fine by me as long as we get more of these "pro" style linemen!
In all things O-Line in Rugbear we trust.
The big uglies know the big uglies!
Thanks Rugger
I read the article and heard JW talk about him. Sounds like one of those great finds that the rest of the world missed.
Me likey!
Welcome Martin!
You took the words right out of my keyboard!
