San Jose State point Myron Amey Jr. puts Cal in his top four
The Golden Bears seem to have a bevy of players interested in running the show at the 1 next season.
Another bit of Cal point guard target news! San Jose State transfer Myron Amey Jr. put up the top four of Butler, Cal, Creighton and Loyola Marymount on his Instagram.
Keeping in the trend of defensive-minded points, Amey Jr. averaged 15.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.6 steals for the Spartans. Another complete guard with ball-hawking skills, Amey Jr. could boost up Cal’s defensive profile yet another level.
Cal is also chatting with Arizona State transfer Frankie Collins (Cal in the top six) and Norfolk State transfer Jamarii Thomas (who is planning to visit Berkeley). Both point guards share a similar profiles as Amey Jr., with a defensive-oriented game that can lead to good offense. The Bears would lovoe to take two point guards I’d guess, but probably one of these particular targets is feasible. I’m sure every point wants the opportunity to start the entire season.
Added good news, I'm a student and I talked to a walk-on on the team and he said Celestine and some of the other players will probably come back. Them going to the portal had something to do with restructuring their NIL which was left over from the Fox days as well as seeing what else is out there.
If these kids are smart they will come running to Cal. Not only is this the best school, but Madson is clearly a coach that can get these guys to the NBA. If these players will simply give him a chance, he will build a winner at Cal but the landscape of this new way of doing business in college basketball is going to make it very difficult. Unlike football, this is a super conference as you can tell; in the tournament there were many ACC teams.
