New Cal football Nike uniform drop: Gold "Big C" helmets officially enter rotation
All the little changes and tweaks fashion-wise from the new look California Golden Bears.
The California Golden Bears will have some new Nike looks this fall. The changes are not wholesale, but they definitely give off a cleaner look for the 2024 season.
Let’s take a look at some of the new uniform tweaks.
New stripes. Old stripes?
Gone is the Sather Stripe that adorned nearly all Cal uniforms for the past decade. Instead the Bears have more traditional stripes that harken back to the old Joe Roth era days.
ACC and Cal logos on top
Welcome to a new age and a new conference. It still looks a little weird to the eye, but we will have to get used to it for the time being. The embroidered Cal logo is a nice touch.
New Cal gloves
Not going to lie, these look quite clean! The old Cal gloves were pretty neat in allowing you to create Cal and California with both hands, but this is obviously much simpler.

These are the classic Cal looks. The general looks have changed.

Standard Cal script on blue helmets
All Blue
Cal will retain its all-blue uniform look that they will likely use as their alternate home uniforms. This has been the standard for decades, and I doubt it’ll be changing anytime soon.
Gold “C” and Road White
The major addition to the lineup is the Gold Joe Roth helmet to the rotation. It’s been used regularly as part of the Joe Roth Game with the classic royal blue 70s look that Cal has sported in its home games with USC and UCLA. It does not look like the gold uniforms have debuted yet in the initial set. We will see if they return in future iterations.
Cal will match the gold helmets with their gold pants, a look they mostly sported in the 2023 Big Game.
The all-whites basically match what Cal has worn as their second road uniform set.
Blue “C”
Finally, the main highlight, the Joe Roth Block C helmet home set! The gold retro helmet with gold pants is a good-looking combination. Cal debuted this in their 2023 Joe Roth Game vs. USC, but the new version looks much cleaner and crisper.
All in all, a big fan of the new look of the Golden Bears. It’s simpler, streamlined, and proper football attire.

To my surprise I decided to give them an A. I'm a fan of a classic, clean look where the colors pop. I almost dropped a grade just because I don't like the blue on blue, no contrast/pop. I like dropping the Sather stripe and returning to a something that doesn't look like a misprint. Also, the gold pants look better than expected as a contrast to either white or blue jerseys...
"Gave it a "C" because it looks pretty standard and similar to what we've had in the past." - Pretty standard? Agreed... Similar? Agreed... but I think that's why I give it a higher grade. I'm ready for standard and similar... maybe classic and continuity better describe my feelings.
"Why does this make me so happy??????" - Dunno but it does make me kinda happy no matter how it looks!
