It looks like there’s a third Golden Bear joining the NFL this year and it’s 2019 Ridbox Bowl defensive MVP, Zeandae Johnson!
Johnson seemingly reported his signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent by simply tweeting #SKOL and thanking those who offered him congratulations on the move. The development has been reported by Jeff Faraudo at Sports Illustrated.
Zeandae played in 41 games over his Cal career; in the past three years, he played in all 30 games with 18 starts. His time in Memorial Stadium was extra lengthy (2015–2020) as he redshirted in 2015 and missed all of 2017 due to injury. His stellar play earned a spot in the 2021 Hula Bowl and recognition as the defensive MVP of our aforementioned 2019 bowl game.
OL Jake Curhan is also reportedly joining the NFL this year as an UDFA with the Seahawks; the only Bear drafted this year was DB Camryn Bynum, who will be a fellow Viking.
Thanks to Zeandae for all his tough play over the years and best of luck in the league!
Cal is one of four teams in the U.S. to have had three DB's drafted in the first four rounds of last year's and this year's draft. The other teams being Alabama, Clemson, and Utah.
If Rodgers does leave Green Bay, I might start rooting for Vikings. Although they are more of an UCLA team.
