The quarterback room is starting to round into form for Cal. CJ Harris, a graduate transfer from Ohio, is coming out west for his final go around in college football. He joins a room that has Fernando Mendoza and Chandler Rogers as established names, but not much other experienced talent.
Harris played limited snaps in his four years with the Bobcats, amassing 829 total passing yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions. Additionally, Harris showcased his dual threat ability in those moments with 239 rushing yards and found paydirt three times. His notable career highlight was a 184 passing yard, two touchdown performance in Ohio’s victory over Wyoming in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl, which earned him bowl MVP.
Welcome to Cal, CJ!
Seems prudent to add a backup if either Mendoza or Rogers go down. Welcome to Cal CJ!
Per the SI site, he has 3 years of eligibility after a medical redshirt last year.
So he balled out in the 2022 bowl game, had a not great start to 2023 then got hurt in game 2 and entered the portal after spring. 6'4" 220lb is solid too, especially for a play action system.
He's a good kind of player to have on the team. Depth is key and I was hoping we'd be able to take another QB. It's even better to have a guy with experience and eligibility.
