Go Bears, CJ!

Seems prudent to add a backup if either Mendoza or Rogers go down. Welcome to Cal CJ!

Per the SI site, he has 3 years of eligibility after a medical redshirt last year.

So he balled out in the 2022 bowl game, had a not great start to 2023 then got hurt in game 2 and entered the portal after spring. 6'4" 220lb is solid too, especially for a play action system.

He's a good kind of player to have on the team. Depth is key and I was hoping we'd be able to take another QB. It's even better to have a guy with experience and eligibility.

His profile on the Ohio football site got wiped, but the cache of his page says he already has a bachelor and a masters. Unless he got accepted to another masters program UC Berkeley, I suspect we'll see him on our bench for a year as he completes a one-year certificate program, he'll enter the portal as a "why not I've got nothing to lose" and then go get a job like the rest of us slobs. But that's just my speculation.

Maybe he can enroll in a Ph.D. program if he already has a master's.

Can professors use NIL money to support doctoral students working in their lab? (or, conversely, maybe the athlete's NIL could help support the professor? That would be a hilarious change of affairs.

Otherwise, most Ph.D. advisors are not going to be interested in advising a student whose focus is athletics. Could work for some sort of professional doctoral program that is less research intensive and PI centered.

Nando, IMHO, has a high risk style.

Since when he runs his tall frame makes a tempting, extended target, I predict Nando will get injured, whether he starts or not. He will try too hard to impress, throw a couple of interceptions and/or make fumbles, then get injured overreaching and making high risk moves. Love Nando and I hope I am wrong. He's got a Bart Starr quality of being the under the radar, the guy you didn't see coming, but he's gonna' make mistakes getting to his top form.

Chandler Rogers and CJ may be real competition for Nando, so I am not sure how you are quite sure CJ won't see the field, if only after some injuries.

3 years eligibility... don't let the grad xfer tag fool you... See the field this year? Probably not, but in a year or two...? He will be competing all the way. This guy actually has tools IMO. He probably sees the field better than Mendoza or Rogers but hasn't had the snaps. He's a year away ...

We thought Ryan Glover would never see the field. If he had not been completely terrible, we would've made a bowl game that year. Always good to get depth

Symbolized Bill Musgrave’s complete incompetence.
