If Larry Scott was being truthful about not asking teams to play a Friday night game after a road game, he forgot to tell the scheduler.
Week 3 - Oregon hosts ASU on a Friday night (Oct. 9). In Week 2 Oregon is at Wazzu.
Week 6 - Stanfurd host Wazzu on Friday, Oct. 30. In Week 5, Stanfurd is at Cal.
Week 7 - UW hosts Colorado (Nov. 6). In Week 6, UW is at Oregon.
Week 10 - Utah hosts USC (Nov. 27). In Week 9, Utah is at Cal.
Week 10 - Wazzu hosts UW (Nov. 27). In Week 9, Wazzu is at Oregon State.
Week 11 - Cal hosts UCLA (Dec. 4). In Week 10, Cal is at ASU.
Why Friday night games aren't scheduled for team in the week AFTER a Bye is beyond me. Of all the Friday night games scheduled in 2020, only ONE team has a bye before a Friday night game: Wazzu is at Stanfurd in Week 6 (Oct. 30). Wazzu has a Week 5 bye.
Stanfurd getting a Bye before the Big Game sucks. But watching the problems the MLB is having after only 1 week of play tells me that football should be cancelled this year. Yes, the mortality rate for young people is low, but what percentage have to live with pulmonary fibrosis afterward giving them constant pain, shortness of breath, and a shorter lifespan? Or how many go on to develop a debilitating stroke or blood clot? How can we say we support our team when we ask them to put their health and livelihood on the line by traveling to a new location every week? How many PAC12 players are we as a fanbase willing to sacrifice due to the elevated risk we're asking them to take on? To be clear, football is a dangerous sport, meaning players have always had to tolerate some risk to their health and livelihood, but where is the line?
Have there been any updates or reports about getting the offense installed? Any interviews with Wilcox or Musgrave? It's a major disadvantage to have a new coordinator without spring practices to get things set up. Maybe he'll start with something similar to what BB had?
My OSU aversion will be gotten over with the first game. It is usually well in the back of my mind when it's at least 6 weeks or more into the season. The needle jumps to acute right before kickoff....and after the first sign of Bear futility which I pyramid into doom. In rough comparison, it seems WSU games don't have that same effect on me.
Big Game being in October is bad, but at least it is not the first game of the year like UCLA-USC. I am skeptical that we will have a season at all though.
As Leland notes the scheduling pattern was disrupted by adding the 10th conference game. The South division analog is in reverse: Wazzu visits both USC and UC L.A.
Had the schedule been a true round robin these double road visits could have been avoided.
Reasoning/pattern got thrown out the window with this tenth game getting added in. If they visited here, then they would have the same problem with two Bay Area visits.
...and the reasoning for moving Big Game to late October is why again? It's not like Furd is having to try to fit in any Notre Dame games or anything...
Personally, I like the idea of keeping the axe an extra year for free in the event of a cancellation. It's sort of a karmic payback for all those Big Game traditions David Shaw would blow off during Big Game Week.
I hereby propose selling both Arizona schools to the Big 12 along with Puerto Rico. First of all, Arizona is a desert both in terms of precipitation and progressiveness. Second of all, the Big 12 only has 10 teams. The PAC will add the University of Alaska at Anchorage and the University of British Columbia and return to the PAC10, as Utah and Colorado are also being auctioned off for oil and gas development. Ok so kidding but FUCK the state of Arizona.

Sorry, Larry. You're a liar.
Looks like the policy is no Friday road game after a road game.
Ah, the incomplete statement, then. Good deduction.
I'm not gonna cry about Oregon playing UW on a short week then having to play Cal who will be coming off a bye
Neither am I. Just pointing out that the scheduling doesn't jibe with the statement.

There is no link to pulmonary fibrosis from a CHINA virus infection.
There are signs of pulmonary fibrosis in autopsies, but it’s unclear how many survivors have to live with it, nor if the cause is the virus, immune response, or the ventilators. Diagnosis is difficult in mild cases. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30582-X/fulltext
PLEASE NOTE: The Friday of Week 11 is actually December 4, not December 5 (which is a Saturday).
Furd with a bye before playing us is BS.
Have there been any updates or reports about getting the offense installed? Any interviews with Wilcox or Musgrave? It's a major disadvantage to have a new coordinator without spring practices to get things set up. Maybe he'll start with something similar to what BB had?

Yeah, because Coug'n it. Can't say the same for those pesky Beavs.
Interesting tidbit by Larry Scott is that there is a scenario where they start the season, and if need be finishing it in the spring.
Over/Under on how many games football games Cal will actually play this year? Let's set the line at 1.5 (or should it be 0.5?)...
I'm predicting full shutdown at week -1.
Agreed!
Big Game being in October is bad, but at least it is not the first game of the year like UCLA-USC. I am skeptical that we will have a season at all though.
Why are we playing at Tucson? Shouldn't we be hosting them since we travel to Tempe this year?
As Leland notes the scheduling pattern was disrupted by adding the 10th conference game. The South division analog is in reverse: Wazzu visits both USC and UC L.A.

that doesn't makes sense. Why not saddle them with 2 bay area visits, but saddle us with 2 AZ visits?
Thanks. I didn't pay attention to their schedule. I guess we should just be happy that we will get to enjoy college football games this year.
You might want to correct "bears hosting OSU and USC" since those are actually road games.
So starting out with OSU an SC on the road?
yup.
...and the reasoning for moving Big Game to late October is why again? It's not like Furd is having to try to fit in any Notre Dame games or anything...
Probably to increase the likelihood that we get to play the game in case things get cancelled late in the season.
Personally, I like the idea of keeping the axe an extra year for free in the event of a cancellation. It's sort of a karmic payback for all those Big Game traditions David Shaw would blow off during Big Game Week.
Honestly I'm pretty sure they put in some restrictions into a season builder. and it just ran a bunch of possibilities and they selected this one.
It also doesn't seem OK to send Cal into Arizona twice in a 3-week period. Are they trying to get our kids sick?
TBH, I can't argue fully for that, because other teams could say the same thing about coming to California. It goes both ways.
TBH full disagree. Arizona is measurably worse: https://globalepidemics.org/key-metrics-for-covid-suppression/
