IT WAS GRATIFYING TO WATCH UTAH CLOBBER USC 47 - 24!! GERBEAR

That was a weird game. Utah running roughshod over the Trojans in the 2nd half. It reminded me of Cal's dominant 4th quarter in the USC game, except we couldn't close the deal and Utah did very convincingly.

I couldnโ€™t bring myself to root for USCโ€ฆ. and Iโ€™m damn proud of that!

Quite the game!

Who honestly had Utah making a 44-7 run after falling behind USC by 2 touchdowns?

Expand full comment

I figured Utah would make a run but I also expected USC to keep pace and match Utah score for score, similar to what happened in the regular season game between the two of them.

Caleb Williams getting hurt clearly changed practically everything. Not that that hasn't been the story of several games for several teams this season. (Ask Cam Rising!) But still, Utah was impressive.

Cal fans: See what DEFENSE can do? Wilcox has made no secret that Utah is the program that Cal should emulate. After watching the Utes destroy U$C, I couldn't agree more. If we can nail the OC hire, Cal will be competing for bowl games and conference titles.

Whittinghamโ€™s program is healthyโ€ฆ.the Utes dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. That allowed them to win a Friday night mid-season game this year at the Palouse with a backup QB and a number of other key injuries. Wilcox canโ€™t even field a functional offense with his backup QBs.

Wilcoxโ€™s O-lines have been dominated for the entirety of his 6 years, save for a monthlong stretch in 2019, and the D lines have actually underwhelmed for much of his time, as well.

Wilcox has so much work to do to get to Utahโ€™s level.

I thought he wanted to make us Wisconsin? See what a functional offense can do?

Offense largely won the two games for Utah against USC this season.

Regular season 43-42 and tonight 47-24.

Amazing how quickly Lincoln Riley turned SC into Oklahoma: powerhouse offense, no defense, blown out in championship games. Now we get to see another B10 or SEC team in the playoff.

Expand full comment

Really. Spitting image.

Expand full comment

Yep, playoff Riley showed up a little earlier than usual this season.

Basically a carbon copy of Oklahoma.

Make a f-ing tackle.

How is that hit on rising not targeting?

Expand full comment

Not even close. Shoulder and side of helmet into chest.

Expand full comment

Agreed, I am still shocked the refs didnโ€™t call it targeting just on the hit and helmet flying off.

Expand full comment

Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised if they had. Seriously disappointed, but not surprised. Pleased it was not called targeting on the field. Pleasantly surprised they confirmed no targeting.

Expand full comment

Yep and yep. Most bang/bang plays like that, with the helmet flying off is going to be called targeting 99% of the time in todays game. It was the right non call and it was confirmed on replay.

How much more money does Cal get if USC makes the playoff?

Expand full comment

I think Cal would have gotten $500K ($6 million divided by 12 schools). Not enough to get me to pull for U$C. So glad they lost.

Ah, cool, I thought it was a whole lot more. Not as big a deal now.

Hopefully enough to fire Fox the moment the playoff dividend check arrives.
