What a disappointing end to the season. The inability to score more than 60 or 65 points is honestly pathetic. When we play a great game and beat Oregon and Furd, you have to hope they have figured something out and will rise to a new level. Then we find they just drop back down to a basement. I still believe it is more about the players we have than the X's and O's, but that's still on Fox. Only if Kelly comes back does the team seem to have much hope next year. And will Knowlton accept another bottom of the Pac season if Fox doesn't recruit a top 5 class? On to football season and spring practice.
They had plenty of open looks today and we’re just horribly inaccurate... almost to the point where maybe some of them weren’t picking up the bucket clearly, as sometimes happens in these unfamiliar arenas. Tonight was definitely a case of the players just misfiring.
A bigger concern for me is Fox’s inability to recruit a P12 caliber point guard. Wazzu went zone and the Bears crumbled. When even Bill Walton is pointing out that Joel Brown can’t shoot, there is a problem. Honestly, I can’t figure out why more teams didn’t play zone against Cal, tho they seemed pretty easy to defend in man-to-man as well...same as why every team didn’t blitz Chase Garbers more.
Gates is apparently a prime candidate for the Georgia job FYI. It will be so poetic when he turns that program around in two years and we're moving on from Fox at the same time when it finally becomes even too painful even for Knowlton. We're just burning years like they mean nothing.
Please. Show mercy. Let this be the last time we ever see Fox on the Cal sideline. This was so so very bad. Sure I feel bad for the kids. Twenty plus years in business and I know a cluster fuck when I see one. This CF started the day Fox was hired. Hard to put into words how really awful this team is under Fox.
This team is definitely light on shooters, but they're missing enough shots that the arena may be an issue for them. Sometimes that can mess with the kids.
If Lars works on becoming little more efficient around the tin next year, he'll definitely be a serviceable rotation piece. He's never going to be an All P12 guy, but the Bears can definitely use 7 & 5 next year in 20 minutes a night.
Either Mark Fox or his kids have no clue what to do with a zone...gotta get that ironed out for next year....Walton just made the point that Joel Brown hurts them v. a zone because he can't shoot.
Celestine didn't box out his guy on the 2nd 3 early and let him get the offensive rebound. You could see Fox lose his schitt on the sideline and point to the bench.
Rough Cal start...a Thiemann turnover, Wazzu grabs 2 offensive boards on missed triples before hitting their 3rd try from 3, Celestine offensive foul, a Coug 3 point play, and then a Cal turnover.
I watched one Oregon mid season game and said they looked undisciplined, and that maybe cal had a shot
Later Oregon went on a big run including some blow outs so I adjusted my thinking
But the Oregon we beat was the undisciplined version
But WSU is a defensive first team and their rim protector is the best in the business
However I’ve never seen him score like that before
Offensively and defensively he single handily beat us
Unfortunately, The Broad Side Of A Barn suited up tonight..........

It will be interesting to see what happens.

So poetic. Fox left that program in ruins for Crean, who seems to have gone full on Wyking Jones.

The tantrums are a bad look. Consistently yanking kids for mistakes is rough too.
What is our path to realistic improvement next year?
Trying to, but I'm just not seeing it from the expected roster...this team has 1 guy that can create his own shot, and he's graduating.
Grant. smh. 2-10.
Sam's gotta finish that layup for the and 1.
when does Fox not lose his shit? Dude is an absolute embarrassment to himself and the university.
He so often looks like a petulant child having a tantrum over on the sideline.
It's a bad look.
Yikes this Cal team can not shoot the basketball. Ugh. 23% from field, 18% from 3.
Missed a lot of open shots including Grant missing short jumpers
This team is definitely light on shooters, but they're missing enough shots that the arena may be an issue for them. Sometimes that can mess with the kids.
Alajiki with the pure jumper from just past the FT line...kid has potential.
Hope he works on his ball handling and taking a guy off the dribble this offseason, as he has range...they need guys that can create their own shots.
Hope Kuany works on a little runner in the lane and maybe even a little back to the basket...6'9", athletic and long...he can be solid around the tin.
Hard screen but looked clean
Hope 2K is ok
Lars playing best
Grant rebounding well, but shooting poorly
No one else doing much offensively

Cal 1-14 since Wazzu switched to a zone. Sigh.

Fox livid with Celestine...yanks him early for Kuany...
Probably defense issue, but Celestine has to up his game without Kelly, and when no one else including shepherd not scoring

Bears haven't gotten a shot off. Yikes.
To bad most of us can't watch it!
Consider that merciful.
Pick your spots. This is not the moment to start blowing about Troy Taylor.
Post his email please
I can be very tactful at the appropriate time, despite the in-game thread rants when emotions tend to run a little hot...
