The Good, the Bad, and the Rock Fights: Cal vs. NC State Football
10 Rockfight losses in a row.
Remember when Rockfight games used to be fun? Back in 2018 and 2019 Cal would find a couple opponents in the schedule—especially Washington—and bludgeon them to death for 60 minutes en route to an absurdly low-scoring win. Often occurring against opponents whose success Cal aspired to achieve, those Rockfight games suggested that Cal was on an upward trajectory from the lows of 2016 and 2017. But now? Rockfights seem to suggest that Cal has plateaued or, worse yet, started a slow but steady downslide. Case in point: in addition to an astonishing list of statistics describing Cal’s utter inability to do anything well in the 4th quarter, the Bears have achieved another woeful statistic: 10 Rockfight losses in a row. To find our last win in a Rockfight we’d have to go all the way back to the 2019 North Texas game (coincidentally, another game where Cal let a 20 point lead mostly evaporate while doing absolutely nothing in the 4th quarter).
