Predict the 2025 Cal Football Season!
New coaches, new players, new opponents...good luck with this one
We have been doing preseason predictions for seventeen (?!?!) seasons and I do not ever recall a season with this much uncertainty. Maaaybe the 2013 season when Sonny Dykes took over. But this one seems just as uncertain, if not more; Wilcox cleaned house on the offensive side, nearly all the major contributors last year graduated or transferred, and a new class of players transferred in for the 2025 season. On top of all that internal turmoil, we’re in year 2 of the ACC facing a bunch of teams with no historical comparison. Cal has played a total of 8 games against the following 2025 opponents: Texas Southern, Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and SMU. Cal has only played San Diego State 9 times, but that’s enough to have some inkling of how that game might go (by the way, whose terrible, awful, no good, very bad idea was it to schedule Cal to play OOC road games in Corvallis and San Diego, both of which have seen no shortage of Cal football horrors in recent memory?)
This is all a roundabout way of saying that we have an unenviable task in front of us today: predicting the Bears’ chance of winning each game in the 2025 schedule. In theory, the task is simple: for each game in the Bears’ schedule give us a 0-100 chance that the Bears will win. In practice…with this schedule, this team, and this new set of coaches…good luck.

I think new and really good OC and offensive staff, coupled with a softer schedule than last year, should net us at least 8 wins. Remember we were 9 points from four additional wins and we gave up 25 in the 4th quarter against Miami cause we couldn’t keep our offense on the field. Hopefully the close ones go our way this year.
Hey, this prediction game was fun! I think we have a good chance of winning the first game of the season in Corvallis. I am looking forward to seeing how all these changes play out at game time. I am ready for some college football. Go Bears!
