Hayes' mother was just venting and needed some reassuring. It would be tough to have an all-everything son who was a star at every level coming to Cal and being stuck far down the depth chart. We advised her to give it some time and then came his chance as a good kickoff returner and now possible 2nd string with an opportunity to see a lot of game time in the offense. Perseverance and patience pays off.
Why would Martin leave when DTR is about to finally graduate after 29 years at ucla and the QB job is going to be an open competition, instead come to Cal for a full rebuild on offense where he would presumably have to beat out Plummer or Kai?
Agreed…tho Chip is likely to hit the transfer portal for a game ready QB…P5 contenders don’t have the luxury of waiting while an Ethan Garbers or Redshirt FR Justyn Martin learn on the job, do they?
It must be embarrassing for a kid to have his father get in the middle of whether or not the player is good enough to play D1 football as a starter or backup.
A patent is totally unqualified to know how their son stacks up against other players on his team. The parent should shut his mouth, plain and simple. This does nothing to help the player, other than to keep other coaches from giving the kid a chance, knowing that a loud mouth parent is waiting to send out tweets about their kid. What coach would want a marginal player with that kind of baggage?
He was a 3* recruit with only one other Power 5 offer, and was a true freshman this year.. with a full scholarship at a world class educational institution. Gotta be horrific for the parents!
*Edit: I was wrong about the "only one other offer.." Didnt expand to see more teams on 247 :)
It was a bit surreal to have a players mom post on a thread. Everyone was very nice to her, she was being very supportive of her son (like all good momma Bears) and venting some frustration about her sons lack of playing time. Bob went back and forth with her for a while.
I believe it was a DBD post. It might have been around mid season.

What is taking so long to announce an OC hire? Thoughts?
I give it 24 hours....or less. Monday at the latest.
I'm loving this OC speculation that y'all are having. Time to speculate on OL coach hires because that matters just as much!
Wait til Monday and Wilcox will announce Greatwood return as full time assistant
That would be a terrible rehire
Heard cocaine bear is the leading candidate. Big if true.
Couldn't do worse. Sarkisian offense?
I got money on Rugbear.
Hear, hear!
well at least the line will be moving a million miles at a time....what results that reap is anyone's guess
Wait, mah man's got a Cal degree AND has 2 years eligibility left? He's winning the game.
Bummer, but it also very likely means Ott ain’t moving.
hopefully in regards to Ott.
Ryan Gunderson
He's from Portland Oregon and played for Oregon State so he checks the Pacific Northwest requirement to be Cal coach.
Hearing the same. Maybe he brings Justyn Martin w/him?

I’m just fantasizing here.

Ott follows Martin on Twitter hmmmm
The Twitter Files!!
Maybe if Uiagalelei transfers back home
DJ is going to be in the portal tomorrow but I wouldn’t want him. He hasn’t looked good at Clemson despite a bunch of talent around him.
I don't want him either, but I was thinking UCLA since he's from SoCal
Why would ucla want him? Garbers and Martin have more potential than DJ and know the system.
I would not say Garbers has greater potential and my understanding is Martin is pretty raw. Maybe LA can be a change of scenery he needs.
Isn’t he currently the ucla QB coach? Does he have any OC experience?
he was Passing Game coordinator and QB coach at SJSU for 2019 & 2020 https://uclabruins.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/ryan-gunderson/3802
Who is that? Our new OC ?
rumor

Uh, do we have a RB2-in-waiting for next year? I'm getting pretty nervous about RB1 at this point.
But congratulations to him for earning the degree. And grad transfers are just the flip side of accomplishing this at a top academic institution.
As it stands: Ott, Street/Hayes, Stredick is the depth chart
Can’t wait for Stredick to get some shine.
Thanks for the insight! Hope the competition brings out everyone's best!
Maybe new OC brings a qb and rb?
A blocking rb.
Street, Stredrick and Hayes.
Plus anyone we pick up in the portal or HS recruiting.
Any sense in what the order would be between Street and the Ashtons?
Edit: answered by TD_24
Damn
It was his mom that you had a long conversation with on here.
Must be really frustrating as a parent. Hope her son can seize this opportunity.

The conversation between the Mom and Bob was entertaining as you can imagine.
Especially since Bob thought mommy was actually daddy.
This is a Mom and Bob shop
What must be frustrating?
To see your kid sitting on the bench.

But his mom thinks he is the best player on the team.
Well, yeah, unrealistic expectations regarding offspring come with parenthood.
It was his mom.
This
I'd like to see this thread! When was it?

Her son’s got wheels…
You mean mother ?
I weighed in and pretty sure (or at least I thot…) it was his mom….
That was his mother lol
