Report: Cal interested in current Texas Interim Head Coach Rodney Terry for open Head Coach position
Another name enters the fray
According to Kirk Bohls of the Austin-American Statesman, Cal is interested in the current interim HC of the Texas Longhorns, Rodney Terry.
Texas men's basketball interim head coach Rodney Terry, who has guided the Longhorns to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2008, is being pursued for head coaching openings at both Penn State and California, a source with knowledge of the situation told the American-Statesman on Wednesday.
Rodney Terry took over earlier in the season for Chris Beard, after he was fired. Terry accumulated a 28-8 record going 12-6 in conference. He led the Longhorns to a 2-seed in the NCAA tournament, reaching the Sweet Sixteen and a chance at the Elite Eight. Texas takes on Xavier on Friday, March 24th at 6:45PM PT.
By no means should Terry be a shoe-in for the UT job if I were UT. A Sweet 16 and B12 tourney title is nice but all he's really done is just take Chris Beard's team that was highly ranked and kept the boat going.
On paper, AAR's achievements are more impressive and relevant to Cal. He's shown he can inherit a dumpster fire and play in front of high school crowds and build up at 20+ tourney appearance team.
Most likely this will result in Terry staying at Texas with a bigger paycheck. But seems like he would be someone worth looking at.
