By no means should Terry be a shoe-in for the UT job if I were UT. A Sweet 16 and B12 tourney title is nice but all he's really done is just take Chris Beard's team that was highly ranked and kept the boat going.

On paper, AAR's achievements are more impressive and relevant to Cal. He's shown he can inherit a dumpster fire and play in front of high school crowds and build up at 20+ tourney appearance team.

100% AAR makes more sense for where the program is now, as well as for reigniting the base. Pasternack too.

Terry is blah…a flameout at UTEP and a nice run with an elite HC’s players.

No.

Rumor has it that Odom has emerged as a candidate for the South Florida job. Why aren't we talking to him? I'm not sure USF is even a step up from Utah St.

He’s a Carolina kid with GA experience at S Fla…maybe he wants to go back East?

PawlOski's avatar

Feels like he should wait it out more then. He’ll have better suitors if he keeps it up.

Agreed.

In an attempt to up the legitimacy of their program, I read High Point was gonna put together a HUGE financial package for him in hopes of luring him back to NC. But must not have materialized.

I mean, good, but there's no way in hell we're getting him. Texas would be insane not to promote him to Head Coach.

mrjpark's avatar

Yeah, but we should interview him anyway. Worst case scenario, we make Texas pay more for him than they intended to.

Gobears2's avatar

More likely scenario...after an interview with Cal, Texas would lower their offer.

Heads we win, tails Texas loses. *chef's kiss*

Bennett has well over a decade of history showing he has zero interest in coaching Cal.

You think the last 3 hires they didn’t think to talk to the successful coach 15 miles away?

OC Bear's avatar

If he expresses interest to our Head Hunter, by all means interview Bennett. That said, I don't see him leaving, if only to drive thru the Tunnel, unless its to make bank so he could quiet quit before retirement. (just follow the lead from Knowlton). Note, not saying that Bennet would phone it in.

I have to believe that Bennet has had other offers over the past years, and he hasn't left. Does he still have the fire in the belly to recruit? (Monty did not.). Does he really want to take over a major rebuild?

Most likely this will result in Terry staying at Texas with a bigger paycheck. But seems like he would be someone worth looking at.

Texas coach isn’t going anywhere, waste of time.

goldenone's avatar

Who knows. Might be a good choice. We might have to out duel Penn State for his services.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

He's not getting Chris Beard's kids at Cal.

No thanks.

Now I'm just straight-up confused.

The wikipedia page you linked to literally has his coaching record at 21–7.
