Semetri Carr Plans To Return To Cal Men's Basketball
Cal will have one key contributor from their 2025-26 squad coming back.
The California Golden Bears appear to have at least one key contributor ready to return for next season. Freshman point guard Semetri Carr will look to build on a promising first-year campaign after announcing his return to Berkeley earlier this week.
Originally from Redwood High in Mill Valley, Carr played in 31 games last season with two starts, shooting 42% from the field and 72% from the line. He had the second-highest assist rate on the Bears behind Justin Pippen.
When the transfer portal starts in earnest next week, there will be a host of talented players in the mix. If Pippen and Dai Dai Ames both return, Carr will still be projected to come off the bench, but could see a significant lift in productivity and execution.
Cal has an NIL campaign kicking into high gear. They blasted through their original $250,000 goal on Friday to get Mark Madsen $500,000 (via a matching donation) and are closing in fast on higher goals.

Love TT, very happy he intends to return. FYI, Redwood HS is not in Mill Valley. It is in Larkspur. As a resident of Mill Valley, among public schools, TT had the option to play either at Tamalpais HS (in MV) or, just over the hill, at Redwood HS. He chose to play his senior season at Redwood, after playing his first three years at The Branson School (a private school in Ross). He had intended to play his final high school season at a more highly regarded program in San Francisco, but there was some difficulty in getting his transfer there approved. That’s why he ended up playing his senior year at Redwood, as I understand it.
Great news! Like most freshmen, there's inconsistency. But we saw flashes of brilliant, high-energy play so the talent is there.
