Seven Top Football Recruits Visit Berkeley this Weekend
Bears hope second weekend of visits goes as successful as first
Seven players from the Class of 2022 are taking official visits to Berkeley this weekend, continuing the official visit period that began this month.
I believe that one of the best indicators of the Bears’ chances is the length of relationship between player and coach, so I’ve included the month of offer for each school involved (though some schools *cough* Arizona State/Colorado/Michigan *cough* like to throw out offers to any warm body). Most of Cal’s top targets are offered around two years before their graduation.
David Bailey - LB, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) 0.9721 247Sports Composite
The 6’3, 220 lb star is one of the highest-rated recruits to take an official visit up to Memorial Stadium in recent memory. Bailey’s trip is a bit of a surprise as he was only offered by the Bears in April. He will a trip to Oregon State (offered in May) next weekend and head to Stanford (offered June 2020) on the 24th.
Sam Yoon - OT, Loyola (Los Angeles, CA) 87 247Sports
Yoon, who is 6’5/280 lb, was offered by the Bears in May and hasn’t scheduled any other visits. Still, a recent offer from local UCLA looms, and Yoon mentioned that Stanford is thinking about offering him as well.
Dave Iuli - IOL, Puyallup (Puyallup, WA) 0.9233 247Sports Composite
The 6’5, 315 lb 4* was offered by the Bears in March 2020. He just visited Oregon State (who offered in September) and plans to visit Oregon (January 2020 offer) and USC (July) in the coming weeks.
Sioape Vatikani - IOL, Bishop Manogue (Reno, NV) 0.8789 247Sports Composite
Vatikani, who is 6’3 and 280 lb, was offered by the Bears in April 2020. He has no other visits scheduled.
Djouvensky Schlenbaker - RB, Squalicum (Bellingham, WA) 0.8567 Composite
Schlenbaker is 6’1 and 217 lbs. Running backs coach Aristotle Thompson offered Schlenbaker last July. He also has a scheduled visit to Washington State on the 25th. It seems that Schlenbaker is mostly waiting for a change of heart from the Washington staff as he’s listed as “warm” to them on 247Sports but hasn’t been allowed to take an official visit there.
Nunie Tuitele - OLB, Regis Jesuit (Aurora, CO) 85 247Sports
Tuitele, who is 6’4 and 230 lbs, was offered by the Bears in February. He currently has no other visits scheduled.
Braydon Brus - WILL, Glendora (Glendora, CA) 0.8527 247Sports Composite
The 6’2, 206 lb athlete was offered by Peter Sirmon in February. He just visited Northwestern (April offer) and will visit Colorado on the 25th (May 2020 offer).
The Bears picked up two commitments (Nathan Burrell and Jaxson Moi) from six visitors last weekend. Will the hitting streak continue into the second weekend?
Thanks for the write up Owen. Would love to see a few of these kids commit this weekend. These kids only get to official visits to a max number of 5 schools so I am guessing Bailey wants to stay on the West Coast if he is visiting OSU instead of Alabama or some of the other big schools that have offered him. I think any of these kids would be great but I like the humility in Schlenbaker's video. Something tells me that kid is a quiet workhorse. Fingers crossed!
Outstanding group of talented would-be Bears. I hope some of them see the light, so to speak, and decide to join the Bears.
