It warms the cockles of my heart to see the OL described as "the deepest group on the roster". Last year, if I remember correctly, the pre-season analysis was that the OL starters were good, but the depth was lacking. Sure enough, a few big guys got hurt and we wound with the ignominy of losing to Oregon State.
Yeah. I truly think it is. If you include the guys with injuries the game experience is pretty significant. Even Saffell said the same thing at his post practice presser. Which you can read about in my practice notebook tomm morning :)
Please be true WR breakout year, the ghost of Chad Hansen tired of paying for all of the older ghosts' dinners, especially when ghost DeSean keeps ordering the lobster.
Amazing preview, as always. Thoughts on NT? Will it be a combo of Brett and Maldonado? If they're both on the field who is NT? Will Bequette be at DT and not NT if either Brett or Maldonado are on the field? How does those prospective line-ups improve the middle run D difficulty we had last season?
Yeah man, you're always crushing it. Mailbag would be good cuz other people have good questions too, but it's hard to scour the comments for them. You and Andy address questions in the pod too, but maybe put all responses in that- might increase listenership i dunno.
If Deng and Goode are out I hope that means they will be resting up for the season. No sense in aggravating injuries in the Spring, particularly with key guys.
Great question. All of the listed practices are open. I’ll be at every one so come say hi. I’ll also have practice reports up everyday. If you want any breaking news from it. Make sure to follow me @rob11hwang or @writeforcal on twitter. Cz that’s where I’ll likely post first.
An Asian guy with a notebook somewhere on the 50 yard line seats. Hard to miss. If the sun is bright you might find me up top in the shade, but usually, we'll be down towards the sideline.
Does RB seem like a thin position group? Seems like a group that has a likelihood of injuries given the constant pounding they take.
Also, there's an article in yesterday's Oregonian about the #1 FB prospect in the country, Logan Horton from Jesuit HS (Alfieri's alma mater), who didn't get many offers due to the lack of interest in FBs, so now he's a preferred walk-on at OSU. If we need a FB in this class, there's a 6-1, 215 lb dynamo who may want a scholly. Are FBs a thing anymore?
Okay.....do we expect the incoming class to contribute at RB? And Rodgers is a TE so that doesn't help in the backfield (unless you're using him as an example of an incoming freshman who WILL contribute somewhere......). Just seems thin to me of the personnel we expect to take the field.
I feel like RB is the one position down the line that is the "easiest" to transition. Both at the college and NFL levels, RBs tend to make their impacts before any other position.
Well, they have 2 seniors along with Street/Moore coming in in the fall. I thnk the roster balance is exactly where you want it. And if they really need an emergency, Justin Baker Touchdown Maker, can defn fill the change of pace roll.
Yup. They’ll be posted here but if you follow us on any podcast service that’ll probably be your best bet to get it sooner. We just joined BlueWirePods so we have some exciting stuff planned as well.
"Oh, what a difference a year makes." I'd say "Oh, what a difference an experienced proven QB makes......" As we saw last season, as Chase goes, the Golden Bears go. Here's to him having a productive season!!!!
Chase has beaten Stanford, Washington, UCLA, and USC in the past two seasons, three of those games required him to engineer time-killing drives in crunch time, something he specializes in. We are lucky to have him.
I believe Cam Chigi and Drayden are the 3 best DB's overall, and all 3 are at CB. Should be interesting to see how the defense works out.
So what are the chances the spring game will still happen despite the coronavirus scare?
The coronavirus will be gone by spring because the weather will get hot and kill it or we will have developed a vaccine.
Nothing to worry about!
Makai Polk will be a starter! Rose Bowl Bound! Good Stuff!
Great write up Rob...thanks so much!
Appreciate you fam.
Really though, fantastic work.
Everyone’s too nice. Maybe it’s the new site hahaha. Appreciate it fammo

I’ll have a practice notebook out tonight or tomm morning.
Maybe I should just start a weekly mailbag? Thoughts on that?
Also appreciate the super kind words. Really means a lot! :)

Yeah. I’ll look into doing something like that in writing or a short audio pod. Appreciate the input!

Are the practices, or which practices, are open to public? Will there be W4C reports from practice each day or some days? Craving news.

I will come say hi on the 14th. Will you be in that exact same seat your profile pic is from? Then I'll know how/where to find you!!!! : )
I can't wait for football........but I have to......

An Asian guy? Come on Rob. It's Cal. Everyone is an Asian guy.
I thot the same thing!!! :)
At practice?
I could come by and pretend I'm you!
WE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE?
I'm just happy that I can read through our roster and see some semblance of depth so that one injury, minus Chase, doesn't kill our season.
Does RB seem like a thin position group? Seems like a group that has a likelihood of injuries given the constant pounding they take.

I think there’s more depth considering not all the freshman have come in yet.
Correct, most of the 2020 recruits wont be here until fall camp (like Rodgers)

Role. dammnit. seems like theres no edit button.
Marshawn and Best did (Maybe Bigelow too?), but I don't know if we have anyone on that level coming in at RB
Chris Street was one of our few 4-stars last year, and seemed to be a lot of talk about him potentially challenging for the backup spot.
There's so much more depth at crucial positions like QB, OL and DL. I can't wait for the season to begin!
Rob, will you continue the Bearcast posdcasts on this site? I hope so.
Yup. They’ll be posted here but if you follow us on any podcast service that’ll probably be your best bet to get it sooner. We just joined BlueWirePods so we have some exciting stuff planned as well.
Pretty excited about the start of Spring ball. Onward and Upward Bears!
I am excite!!!!!!
