there's your lifeline right there

Oski Bear's avatar

I have no faith in these coaches. But I will love and respect Fernando Mendoza forever. True baller.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

100%.

That drive made Nando a f-ing legend.

TD_24's avatar

gotta let it go Fernando

TD_24's avatar

all kickoff times/networks have been updated, apologies for that

Archon79's avatar

No passer doing more with less protection than Mendoza.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Showed me a ton on that last possession.

An all-time great drive.

Tip of the hat.

CalBear’19's avatar

98 yd drive for the kill, love it! Man, you gotta love Mendoza’s passion.

Wiata78's avatar

Finally a close game that we actually WIN!

abqbear's avatar

It felt like an exorcism. I think that was part of the emotion Fernando was showing

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Mendoza’s tough not to like.

abqbear's avatar

Celebrate the win. Gripe about coaching later.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Absolutely.

6-6 with back to back bowls is nothing to gripe at.

Karma's avatar

Uhh. We haven’t played with SMU yet.

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

for sure; that was fun (in the end)

TD_24's avatar

Cal defense absolutely getting dogwalked down the field

Rollonyoubears111's avatar

So Happy for Fernando and the seniors!

OldSoCalBear's avatar

I say it every year, that axe staredown has 20 of the least intimidating people I've ever seen in my life

Gobears512's avatar

Yeah... no offense to them but someone has to be a little intimidating. They seem almost reassuring.

Oski94's avatar

When did they turn into dead eyed zombies. I don’t remember that in the 80’s.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Has this team quit on Wilcox?

PCWT's avatar

the fact that they didn't quit on him early speaks to how awesome these kids are. They deserve better.

Heino's avatar

The LA Bowl is ridiculous, but please let that be the destination.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Nando in tears. Go Bears

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Td_24. Take the pin out of it. Your apology the first time was good enough. Every time a post is made your apology keeps showing up

Bearly Rational's avatar

What a rollercoaster. Classic cal heart attack.

royrules22's avatar

Kickoff is 12:30 not 2

C Bass's avatar

Seems like the Bears were hibernating for about 6 1/2 quarters. Thought they had thrown in the towel. Great to see them wake up and pull this one out. Go Bears!

CalGal2004's avatar

Stadium announcer: if you are going to rush the field please wait one minute and take the stairs don’t jump over the wall…. LOL.

Juice's avatar

Nevermind the victory knee, score the “f*** you” TD

TezCalipoca's avatar

but with 3 hands on the football

OldSoCalBear's avatar

4th down defense

2 point conversions

4th quarter field goals

red zone offense

we are at our worst when it matters most

Wilcox thinks this is "a few key plays" but it's more fundamental than that. Something is broken with this team and staff

abqbear's avatar

To me that speaks to playing too tight and nervous. I only played varsity sports in HS, but my team had the same issues and being afraid to fail was the root cause.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

wilcox is incredibly tight on the sideline. would like ti see him lighten up and have some fun

coolingfan's avatar

Wilcox’s team never had great go-to plays in these situations. Or it did, but they were weird and never successful (empty backfield with 3rd-and-2 in a 4-down territory, etc.).

CalGal2004's avatar

Wow. They actually threw the flag on the first guy. 🤞🏼

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

His teammates pulled him away thankfully

Rugbear's avatar

Perfect throw and great catch by Trond.

abqbear's avatar

Looking flat and unprepared for Big Game is infuriating and depressing

Oski Bear's avatar

I’ve found the formula for the Calgorithm.

Wilcox + Knowlton = Dumpster Fire - $15,000,000

CalPete's avatar

Caught some of the post-game interview with Nando on the field getting emotional.

Archon79's avatar

Wilcox should donate part of his salary to Mendoza’s new LLC

NinjaNed's avatar

One can hope that SMU rests their starters to prep for the playoffs like they do in the NFL.

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

Mendoza crying for his team. Love it.

HaasBear's avatar

As much as Wilcox is flawed, you gotta give him credit for keeping the axe where it belongs.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Awesome win.

Love the comeback

TD_24's avatar

that was a big ol surrender punt from Troy I'm surprised

TD_24's avatar

that was a damn dart

TD_24's avatar

now I have to envision Stanford rushing the field after this good grief

This is embarassing.

Juice's avatar

Bloesch is the Andy Buh of offense

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Great job of the teammates holding back

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

I think that's the fastest I've seen Mendoza run; dude can scoot!

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

sure hope he doesn't get eaten by the portal

Archon79's avatar

Mendoza would be QB1 on probably 40 other teams. Lets hope he truly cares about a Berkeley education.

TezCalipoca's avatar

Syracuse game took care of that

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Honestly, if it means Jaron is starting….

Karma's avatar

We are best 6-5 team!

Heino's avatar

Although Nando said 6-6 in the post-game interview - haven't lost to SMU yet my dude!

Mark's avatar

My friends. It was an ugly win. We did not play a great game. But we earned this win. Big Game is just a different game.

Enjoy it.

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

CAL WINS THE 127th BIG GAME

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

“There will be no extra point.”

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Before, We go to crazy. If We win this game let's give the credit to the players. Wilcox had nothing to do it. He may be the HC The players deserve all the credit in hanging in and making the plays

David's avatar

He did recruit the players; that's worth something

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Yes, He did recruited the players. But, you must admit that his game time play calling is not adequate as a HC. I would 75 to 90 percent of the fans on this thread would like to see him go.

Juice's avatar

Bloesch has the worst package of 2 pt conversion play calls I have ever seen

abqbear's avatar

Our conversion % has been very poor

HaasBear's avatar

It’s amazing what happens once the staff realizes Ott is banged up and we need a threat of a running attack.

Dominick Damiani's avatar

We are not going to get many more possessions. Only one quarter left . Unless, the defense comes up big on the next drive

Gobears512's avatar

I just know they will!! (I'm kidding, I'm drunk on sorrow, Mountain Dew, and funnel cake.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

Mmmmmm funnel cake…

TezCalipoca's avatar

Sorrow is such sweet...sorrow

Gobears512's avatar

THROW THE BAAAAAAALLL!
