I think we should look at the Mountain West as our version of the MAC when it comes to coaches. These are coaches that HAVE to develop their athletes. Brady Hoke?

Andy made a good point that I've been thinking about a lot: JW hired schemers/developers at first to maximize the (minimal) talent we had on the roster at the time. He's transitioned to hiring recruiters in order to build up the roster talent.

Unfortunately, we're currently at the sweet (sour?) spot where we have neither good-scheming/-developing coaches nor a plethora of (uninjured) talented upperclassmen.

The case study is in the DB room, with true freshman Hearns beating out Anusiem, a previously much-heralded talent in development.

Assuming the roster doesn't suffer too much attrition/portal-ing, I have a year or two of patience left. But it would also be a good idea to make some coaching changes where we're hurting the most (special teams, plz – it looks like Michael Barton is being trained up for both special teams coaching and AZ-focused recruitment....).

I feel like Sirmon isn't getting us what we need on D, but I'm not sure JW would fire him – JW seems like the kind of guy who would rather keep his friendship than a job.
