Tosh Lupoi finishes his tenure with the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff. It starts tonight at Autzen Stadium against the 12-1 James Madison Dukes, winners of the Sun Belt Conference.
The new California Golden Bears head coach made it clear that he would finish his time with Oregon as defensive coordinator on their national title run, saying he could not leave his players. This did impact his coaching interview process.
“Ultimately, that was a bit of a deal-breaker for another place, and that’s fine. I respect their process. But that was very clear,” Lupoi said. “I made it very clear: Over my dead body would I ever leave the individuals here. One, they’ve put myself and my family in this position. And two, I wanted to finish what we started here.”
Oregon is heavily favored against James Madison. If they were to win, their next opponent would be Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day.
