Though I think he should be let go promptly for cause given his role in overlooking that abuse, I know the wheels move slowly to minimize legal risk. The timing is brutal. At a school like Cal, like you said, because of the legal risk there's no way you can terminate Knowlton in any reasonable amount of time...but you also can absolutely NOT wait on the hire because of the portal, etc.
