Disagree - Berkeley only came into play when it was discovered people from certain cultures could not pronounce CAL and foreign student money was coveted by CAl.- the change to accommodate them fucked up everything and here we sit. The only person this change would make happy is Bill Walton who is a UCLA grad and used the Cal Berkeley as a dig at CAL. If Cal becomes Cal Berkeley then UCLA would become Cal Los Angeles
If you, today, tell someone in Paris or Riyadh or Hong Kong or Capetown or Buenos Aires that you went to Berkeley, they would understand what you mean.
If you told them you went to Cal, they would have no idea what that is.
And clearly most folks in California and the Bay Area have no clue either! I grew up in the Bay and didn't know until I attended Cal that there was only 1 Cal.
You make an odd inference here. Since childhood, unlike you, I’ve always known there is only one CAL, and it’s in Berkeley. Am I to then conclude that clearly most Californians and folks in the Bay Area DO have a clue?
I think it’s time to update our branding in the academic world, so we are known as California and can attach ourselves to the far larger brand equity of the state.
We should just be California in all things.
For academic things, just add “(Berkeley)” for the next 10 years and then phase it out.
Oh god no, the academics is WAY more important and is known as Berkeley. No way we would ever drop Berkeley

That is a big deal!!!!
So, tell them you went to Berkeley, if that makes you happy and is a big deal to you. You do you.
Because all those recruits that we will lose from Riyadh??
This has nothing to do with football recruiting.
How many universities have international name recognition to the level of “Berkeley”? Maybe a dozen or so? That is so valuable
LMAO.
Do they have kickers there?
This. 100% this.
I could care less what they think, I care about what the sponsors (the people of California) think and what makes them proud!

Meh. This is a stupid idea, as explained above
