Somehow I missed this piece when it was published, but this was the last home game I attended. It was a pretty special trip because I met up with my brother and his friend. While they're both Northwestern alums, we had a really fun time and seeing Goff for the first time was eye-opening.
Thanks, Unclesam. Great write-up. My history of Cal games with my Dad is that he started taking me to games in the early 70s, which is what hooked me on being a Cal fan. We'd sit in the family section and would often go down on the field after the games. More recently I'd try to get to Berkeley for a game each year with Dad, often with my son.
My Dad was an Emeritus Professor in EECS, and recently passed away after falling in his house right before Father's Day (https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sfgate/obituary.aspx?n=richard-white-dick&pid=196707318). Between the time he fell and when he died I filled him with activities we'd do together when he got better, including dinner at Rendezvous on Solano, wine on his porch, pool at Draw on Shattuck, and going to a football game together.
Like you, I have great memories of Cal games with my Dad. Thanks for sharing with us.
Neither do I. It's just that I remember the description of OldBear71 atop a ladder and it includes a power tool; a very specific kind of power tool. It still makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Beautifully written! Go Bears!

unclesam22 and his mom and two sisters are my greatest (and only, truth be told) claim to fame!
Thanks for the memories Sam!
Good night.
I love (and miss) you (all).
GO BEARS!!

This sums up my thoughts too.
Sam really is dapper. The resemblance to OldBear71 would be even more clear atop a ladder though.
With or without chainsaw?
I mean the chainsaw would make it plainer but I don’t want to encourage risky behavior

I would give up a dozen Cal wins to be as dapper as Sam.
DC Trojan, YOU have a loooong memory!
Only time the two of us have looked better together was at Fenandina Beach March 19, 2010.
A good story always sticks in my mind!
