Score is pretty meaningless for a scrimmage against a practice squad. Sit players like Mohammad who needs to heal. Focus on fundamentals and communication. Execute at a high level. Get your bench some PT.

And no need to run up the score. Show these fellas from Staten Island a little mercy.

WU TANG IS FOREVER.

Wilder: Good point. This should be a game where the 2nd and 3rd string players get lots of playing time. We don't want any of our first string players (JKS, Lopa, Muhammed, etc.) getting hurt against a team like Wagner. Clemson is only a week away and we REALLY need a statement win, especially if we want to get invited to the Big Ten.

Plus the Clemson game is on a short week, next Friday.

whoa, let's not get crazy now

Good game to play a lot of 2nd's and 3rd's after hitting 50.

feels like bad karma to predict a blowout, but since JMU beat Wagner by 84 and JMUcla beat us by 21, we should win by 63. I’ll go with 66-3.

Following up on Nick's comments, I would like to see Cal try some new plays on offense. Spread it out and open it up for heavens sake. Let our QB sling it. Find our next number 2 RB. Add some speed to our game. Give everybody some game time reps.

I do hope Lupoi is a run-up-the-score type guy. We all remember (fondly) who was not.

150-3 who cares? This is like Syracuse playing NH — it means nothing and tells you nothing. It’s only slightly better than playing a good CA or TX high school team. Sure, everyone gets to play and run up the stats but it’s not even as good as a blue vs gold intra squad scrimmage. I’m sure Wagner isn’t happy about flying all the way from NY to have its collective ass handed to them. On the other hand, if Wagner scores at all it’s a win for them whereas it’s a loss for Cal! So for Cal it’s a bye week with a scrimmage as Cal prepares for Clemson next week! Like I said, who cares?

I count our blessings that it’s not a home and home deal.

WilderThanGene's avatar

C'mon, how great would it be to make Staten Island, the misfit borrough, Bear Territory?

We have a winner:

Yoav Shames

Scoreline: Cal wins 49-10

Wiata78's avatar

So, Shames, what’s your prediction for the next game?

CalBear’19's avatar

If the offense can’t #drop50, Cal has serious problems on offense.

My goal for the Bears would be a shut out. Haven't had one since '05 vs. Arizona (28-0).

just play as many combinations of OL as possible until you find the right fit. so tired of discussing OL for the past 10 years!!

Wagner -1.5 Wednesday, the over/under is 71.5. In other words, Wagner is the favorite. ?? This line has moved around a lot, yesterday I believe I caught it at -0.5. (it was maybe -6.5 for Cal on Tuesday, very confusing)

It is the only game on the ESPN schedule listing that is NOT reporting the line

ESPN SP+ 73 (up 4 spots) ( 67th offense, 81st defense)

Football Power Index 75, up 3 spots, predicted record 5-7 up one game, up to 40% to win 6 games (from 20%)

Athletic all teams ranking: #52. DOWN 2 spots after the win.

Sagarin: Rank = 49, up 13. (Wagner #260).

Using Sagarin's predictor ratings, we are 42 pt favorite

Masse composite rankings - we are 72 (up 8, 47 different ratings avg) range 47-102

AP No votes

Coaches Poll No votes

Bonagura says he no longer believes we are a bowl team

Schlabach says Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth, TX

Update, the line above was betting Pros, and today plus Fan Duel too has CAL as 58.5 favorite. and the over/under has moved down to 65.5

Couldn't agree more:

"Anything short of a 50 point win is a point of concern, any points scored before our 3rd string is on the field is also a point of concern."

Run up the score in the first half trying to work on our timing, coverage, assignments, etc. in a live game situation. Then (hopefully) put in the backups to get our depth some reps. And for goodness sake, don’t let JKS or Adam play in the second half.
