I think many of us may be stuck in the idea thst there’s something in the term “Cal football” that somehow always determines how a Cal team will perform. It’s a kind of weird fatalist feeling that no matter what team Cal puts on the field, the outcome will follow some age old pattern. I’m sure there were many who felt the same about Indiana football when that team took the field last year with a new coach and a new team, and with a great Cal QB at the helm of the offense. Well, we have a new team, a new coach and a QB with generational talent to lead our offense this year. I’m not looking ahead to a 2027 team. It’s this year’s team and Cal is going to light up the ACC like nothing we’ve ever seen before. I’m not crazy but I’m betting 12-0 and on to the ACC Championship. This is not your father’s Cal football team. New era, new coach, new team!
Oh boy, hope springs eternal in late August and early September. I agree we have a great QB, upgrades at all the O skill positions, good portal backfills at LB and backfield, and the right HC (finally!). However, big Qs remain on both the OL and DL - as WFC has already written. With that in mind, anything more than 7 wins is major sunshine pumping at this point in time. If the lines gel and dominate (as we all hope), then the ceiling is much higher. Still, GO. BEARS. FOREVER!
Sorry, as wfc has written already, the OL and DL are still big ??? for 2026. That problem is a major reason for 7-5 in 2025 (2nd worst running game in FBS). I want the GBs to be 10-2 or 11-1, but until the lines prove they can compete with the good ACC teams, 9-3 or 10-2 is the definition of sunshine pumping. GO. BEARS. FOREVER!!!
When I look at the games, i see 5 losses as the realistic expectation. However, that over all record feels like a negative. I can't bring myself to be negative about the season, so I'm going 8-4 for the season with Big Game a must win as always. Let's go!

Second, I have managed to whip myself into a frenzy consuming all things Cal the last few weeks, and in particular around this week's game agains fUCLA. I even attended Mass (IYKYK). I'm now just a twitchy mess, having no idea what will happen, as none of us do, but hey, that doesn't stop us from speculating. Fuck it...9-3. Go Bears Forever!
Try to avoid a Belichick faceplant like did NC last year. Complete overhauls at coaching and schemes take some time to develop, but I think JKS will be that steadying influence. Just keep fighting and improving as the season goes on and it’s a success. I’m finally able to attend the games (last one was 1993) and ready to cheer on the Bears!
Get rid of this feature or ban the annual respondents who either don’t know football or just provide respondences that are without any thoughtful analysis.

Disagree. Remember that we won 7 last year. Expecting north is 7 wins is not sunshine pumping. It’s a reasonable expectation based on talent upgrades.
